Stepside bed?
I know chevy used the same tailgates for earlier and later trucks and the stepside fenders are different on older and newer but i was wondering if the bed is the same?
I seen a older stepside bed that somebody had made into a trailer that they were selling , I was thinking about stopping and getting a closer look, would look good pulling a stepside trailer behind the stepside when I have to haul any junk I was just wondering if the bedsides and the front of the bed are different. Thanks

i think mudder is correct ... the mounting holes may be different ... nothing a welder and an afternoon couldn't fix.

I think that fender mounting holes are different (around step end) and also mounting holes for tail lights are also different. Later models used one tail light for backup and brake light as compared to my two separate lights.

The bolt holes are not only different but the fenders on the 67-72 are mounted much further back on the bedside.
SHANE, The tailgate is the same,( 54 or 55 to 87) Are you sure the front panel isn't also?? I have a 73 up short step bed in the backyard I was going to put on my truck, but decided against it. I can measure the front panel to let you know for sure. Filling and finishing the mounting holes would be a lot of work, but it definetely could be done. And the steps are shorter. I'll try to get some pictures sunday or monday. RON |

Hey Ron ...
I think the front panel is different ... as far as the stampings of the "indentions" are different from year to year ... I would think the mounting bolt holes are the same though . I am also thinking the tail gate is different as far as the stamping of the lettering from year to year. I think the hinge and chains are the same though. Your right on the "lots of work" part ... lots of holes to weld, grind, bondo and then block sand. |
