72 K5 Axles
I was wondering if someone can educate me on what axles came stock with the K5. Also how can I ID my front axle its an 8 lug.

If you front is an 8 lug, it could be a rare HD Dana 44 but is more likely a Dana 60. I believe the 44 has a casting somewhere near the pinion that says "44", and i think the most notable difference between the two is that a D60 is a full floating front axle.

It has no casting of "44". It is also a 10 bolt.

72K5 came with Dana44 front and GM 12bolt rear.

Wfe took the camera. As soon as she gets home I will post a pic. I did find a casting on it 458856 also there is a letter N over that number.

That is not a D44 or a D60. Looks like just a common junkyard GM 10 bolt. Someone who knows more about axles will hopefully chime in and be able to tell you exactly what you have.

Looks like someone swapped in a GM10bolt
Most treat GM 10bolt (not sure what year they came out?) and Dana44 the same, as far as durabillity goes.
