Rattling Brake Calipers Up Front

So my calipers are rattling. When I apply the brakes, they stop. I took the wheel off and it looks like the studs that hold them on are too small.. it rattles on them. OR could it be that I'm missing some grommets or bushings? Anyone know?

The calipers have flat 'o-ring' style seals that should seat around the 2 caliper mounting bolts.

Another common issue is the pads themselves 'shifting' within the caliper when the brakes are compressed. This typically requires bending the tabs on the pads in a little tighter so there's an interference fit when installing them in the calipers.

Now any idea where I would find the o-ring style seals? Would this be an auto part store item hopefully?

You can find the caliper seals(bushings) at Carquest in caliper rebuild kits. I'm sure you can find it other part stores too. Like Scoti said check the pads for the rattle and tighten the tabs near the hat of the rotor.

You all were right.. O'Reillys make a rebuild kit but I think I'm going to replace the whole caliper since they are only $11 each!

you don't need a rebuild kit....most parts stores sell the hardware kits....

You are probably right. But the caliber bolts have wobbled the mounting holes holes hence they rattle like crazy. Whoever put these on didnt use sleeves/grommets. I guess I can try the $5 kit first to see how bad the holes are first?

The $11 caliper come assembled with the bolts and everything.. I can't believe that cost, but I have always gotten good parts from O'Reillys so I trust that they are decent at least.

If they will indeed tighten up the calipers in your situation, the rebuild kits are a much quicker/easier solution. Swapping the entire caliper will require bleeding....not you, the fluid.
