Re: How rare ????
Shortbed big block trucks are not all that common.
3 speed automatic or manual?

Re: How rare ????
if original (and can be proven) a short/step with a big block is very rare. Short/FLEET trucks were never real common with a big block, but not super rare.
a 3 speed with a big block is very odd, but no one wants them either, so that's more of a sore spot than a selling point IMO. |

Re: How rare ????
I saw a short fleet big block truck with a 3 speed manual on the column once.
Why someone would want that is beyond me.

Re: How rare ????
I like the three speed column shift. One thing is for sure,if a thief tries to steal it he will be to young to know how to drive it or too old to run if you catch him.I took mine to be inspected once and the kid doing the inspection did all the items on the list until it came time to drive it(In Tx at the time they had to drive it a short ways to test operation). He looked at me and said "I can't find drive, where's the indicator?"
I had to drive it for him and let him ride and watch. He could not believe a standard where the shift was on the column.

Re: How rare ????
Actually, back when these trucks were built automatics were still considered weak for te=rucks by many and manuals still held their own at the drag strip. You get true "lock-up" and total control of your shifting points. They were the HD 3spd,too.With a torquey powerful motor the tall first got you off the line and ahead before you shifted.Back 10 or so more years and you`ll find alot of performance cars ran 3spds,Especially before the turbo hydromatics.I owned a`68 short Fleetside 396/3spd/posi/tach truck that was one of two identical trucks ordered by two brothers that were into drag racing.
