Side View Mirrors... advise, ideas & pictures please

Ok, figured that I would turn to all of you for new and different ideas. I just spent last weekend patching up the holes in the doors from the PO's previous sets of mirrors. Since I had mismatched mirrors on my truck, I have decided to replace them.

What I'm looking for is a good sized mirror, that is solid, and has very little vibration. The ones I had made night time driving a challenge when trying to figure out where the bouncing bright lights really were. I'm looking for a larger mirror that gives me good visibility to see the little cars out there.

I'm just wondering what set ups some of you have used, and to see some of the modifications that you may have made.

I did attach a new mirror from Checker, but the vibration is actually worse than before, and (even though I tightened the he!! out of it) it folds back at 50mph.

OEM Toyota truck mirrors (flag style) from the late 80's to early 90s work well on these trucks and should not vibrate. I have seen them on these trucks and they look good when painted body color. I think you can get them in chrome, too.

I have the same problem with the mirrors I bought from LMC. What I ended up doing was tapping a hole through the threaded part in the bent arm and putting a bolt through it to keep it from rotating at higher speeds. It's ghetto as hell, but it works... Ok, where is it... THERE!

They still shake and shimmy till hell won't have it... I'm also looking for a good solution. I'll watch the thread for other answers...

These stock mirrors on my 69 has no movement what so ever. I think the trick is to find some that are secured horzintally and the two points below the window.

I have the same ones on my 72 and they are awesome. I did add a 12" piece of 1/4" X 1" flat stock across the lower two bolts and installed it inside the door. Kind of like an extra brace, but it didn't seem to make much difference, as they didn't vibrate much before either. but these mirrors (below eyeline mirrors) are really good for visibility and no vibration.

I have the same low profile mirrors on my '71 and they work great for towing.

Some don't like them because they are not stylish.

I had the sport mirrors on a '72 GMC and they worked ok except when I wanted to tow stuff.

Some like the pep mirrors, but they are more for looks than functional.

I have these. I really like em, but they were rusty, grungy and the drivers side mirror glass had a chunk missing. So I took em all apart and had em blasted and powder coated. Also replaced both mirror glass.

Now that they arent all rusty the mirror heads wont stay where I want em. starting to really bug me, Ill figure something out though.

I do like those mirrors that tripod down the door and the mirror head will stay close or swing way out for trailer hauling. Most people dont care for em though.
