front leaf springs

we took off the back and front leaf springs. Got the back ones back on but the front ones won't go back on. Cant get shackle mount wide enough to put the end of the spring in to bolt it on. Kinda hard to explain it, sorry. We tryed hammering it in and it won't slide in place. WE NEED YOUR HELP ASAP!!
