Title says it all. Is it possible to pull the oil pan with the engine installed?
on a 72 blazer 350/th350 BTW incase your not checking the sig.

Most of the time, it is MUCH more of a pain to try and do it in the truck. I've heard that if you just get the engine/trans to where you can hoist it up about 3" or so, it will make life a LOT easier.

My uncle just had to do this on his '67 F**D. Different animal, I realize, but his mechanic ended up all but pulling the motor to do it.

Harmonic balancer at 6 o' clock and jack up under the tranny and bit and everything should clear to pull it out. Done it myself.

I dont get it? balancer @ 6 o'clock? do i need to unbolt the motor mounts then jack up the engine?

I did mine by unbolting the motor mounts, removed the distributor, and used a hoist to pull the motor up. It worked very well. As far as turning the balancer I did not do that. I would imagine that it helps with the crank weights, probably moves them out of the way at 6 o'clock, just a guess on that one.

Thats correct with the balancer in that position you will get the most clearance of the counterweights.
And yes unbolt the motor mounts. I would have answered before but I'm not sure on 4X4 how much clearance you have to raise the 205 and or what the front member looks like with the solid axle. Hopefully some one with a 4by will chime in.

With the balancer position are we talking timing marks at 6 o'clock. Well i guess thats kinda a stupid question thats the only mark on the balancer right.

I did it on my 4x4.

On my 72K10 I had to remove the cross member and the motor mounts to get the pan out. Maybe if I had known about the balancer trick I could have saved myself some big trouble. I also did the usual stuff like remove the dizzy and jack up the front of the motor. Lots of work. Don't want to do it again.
