I had to take out 2 bolts to remove tailgate
I tried for the first time to remove my tailgate on my 72 C-10 and i think i have something missing.I kept looking for a slot cut out of either the right or left side bottom pivot points neither side has one.I had to take the 2 bolts out of the right pivot and remove it with the gate and get it out that way.Sure keeps someone from stealing it.

It isn't missing anything. I believe it was the late 70s before gm added the slot. Notice that both hinges are round, one is oblong on the ones that slip off.

paps has it right, no slots on these old ones. I like it that way, keeps the gate on the truck.

That said, there were a couple of members on here who had converted their tailgates to "quick release" a few years back, so it could be done without too much difficulty. I seem to remember that they slotted the gate & reformed the bracket that bolts to the bedside.
