Exhaust Manifold question
Stock Rams horns off a SB 283, cleaned up and ready to put on Sb 350. On the bottom where the Pipe goes there is some small spacers with a flapper inside. These are about an inch long. I have some pics and will upload first thing in the morning. Question is do i need them? can i remove them?
Thanks Vance |

Re: Exhaust Manifold question
The spring loaded valves were installed to help the engine warm up faster and force exhaust to circulate through the intake manifold.
They can cause problems if they rust up in the closed position and they restrict the flow of exhaust. Also, they can rattle and leak exhaust around the shafts. They don't seem to make a difference in the cold operation of engines so we don't run them on our trucks. Jim

Re: Exhaust Manifold question
Cool i dont think the one side will stick shut as its not even there. SO what do you replace them with or do you just shorten the studs and go right to the exhaust pipe.
Here are some pics thanks |

Re: Exhaust Manifold question
There are several places that make a plain spacer to replace the flapper one. I got one from Ecklers, or try some of the board vendors they might have them.

Re: Exhaust Manifold question
Sure if your exhaust pipes will pull up that far. I Just had one on the D\S and with an H-pipe connecting both sides together that was not an option.
