'70-'71 suspension swap q's

I have a 70 GMC that had the drum brake set up in front but i am switching to a 71 set up i canniblized off my friends truck. my question is... I know that i have to get different ball joints to fit the spindles as well as outter tie rods. but do i need the inner tie rods for a 70 to fit in the steering rod? or are they the same?

Re: '70-'71 suspension swap q's

I can't say for sure that there is any component differences between GMC and Chevrolet back then, but I have a 70' Chevy C-10 and I swapped spindles from a 71' C-10 onto my 70' so I could get 5 lugs and disc brakes. I used my stock control arms from the 70. Installed the 71' spindles and the tie rods bolted right up. I did replace the ball joints, but I put replacements of what was there, (they were not 'different' to my knowledge).

the "steering rod" as you call it or drag/center link is different on the 71-72 than it is on the 67-70. parts were cheap enough so I changed inner and outer tie rods, sleeves and of course ball joints, this way everything was new. The only thing that was the same for 67-72 steering components was the pitman arms. good luck with the upgrade.
