Holley vs. Quadrajet
Its time to rebuild the Quadrajet and I now have a decision. Do I rebuild the Quadrajet or do I buy the emission legal Holley. I'm concerned that because of the smaller CFM of the Holley that the performance will drop significantly. Any opinions?

I would give "The Carb Shop" a call, they are in the Inland Empire. The can give you the best advice for either. Their phone number is usually in Car Craft or HotRod.

Well, I know that there was a place out in CA called Jet Performance or something like that that specialized in rebuilding q-jets to be better than new and they would alter them to be re-jetted with different metering rods etc during a rebuild to be specific to what you were running for an engine.
Not sure what a holley goes for like that in your neck of the woods, but, I might opt for something that was redone special for your engine if the price wasnt far off. Add to that the fact that its been observed so often that its pretty much a fact that a well functioning q-jet will get a little better gas mileage across the board historically than holleys or edels... you know, comparable carb to comparable carb, not a 390 vs a 650 or anything... My vote is in exploring that direction anyways... |
