700 x 18 1950 GMC 250 Splitrim Help

Hi All and an early Happy 4th to you & your family !
I was surprised on monday when I was given a 1950 GMC 250 flatbed: by a older gentlemen. I had tryed to buy it from him for years but he kept saying he was going to give it to his son. Remember to always show respect when inquiring about an old rig, you never know what is in the mind of a person at the time you ask about selling a part of the family. My problem is the 700 x 18 tires and the split rims on it. I have had no luck finding a good set of tires for it and would love to get rid of the dangerous split rims. Do any of you know of a modern tire and wheel combo that will work? Any suggestions would be most helpfull

Dont know how much you want to spend but you can get adaptors and run modern steel or alcoa rims. Here is a shot of a TF 4wd dually with Alcoa rims.

the only dangerous thing about split ring wheels is mounting them without a safety cage. AFAIK, anyway.
