Problem with fuel tank

I have a 84 GMC 2500 with dual tanks, when ever I switch tanks with the dash switch it runs like crap. Like it is running out of gas or the fuel pump is going on the blink. You can hear the solenoid at the fuel crossover valve work and both gauges for the right and left tank work but it will not run very good after 55 MPH, Especially if you tromp on it. It surges like it is not getting enough gas. Any Ideas, I am not sure it has anything to do with the fuel crossover valve or the dash switch, maybe a fuel pump going out? I appreciate and help or suggestions.

Re: Problem with fuel tank

i would assume ti's the vaulve..
usually it'll run for a minute and then just "run out of gas" and shut off...
i would say it's the vaulve.
now you can check the operation with a 12v drill battery
or you can have the ign on and have someone hit the switch and ensure the valve is in fact switching or not...

it's a beast to take off..
but.. that's what ive experienced..

See if you have a kink somewhere in the line on that tank.
