starting my '56 upgrade project

I have been looking into upgrading my rear axle along with putting a '67 camaro front sub-frame into my current truck.

I was curious if there is a place to find axle specs or if someone has experience in possible rear axle upgrades. I'm pretty sure my current axle is 62" WMF - WMF.

can anyone thows some ideas out there on what fits?

Re: starting my '56 upgrade project

I have a C4 corvette rear axle assembly that would give you rear disc brakes, rear independent suspension for sale, 400.00. Its exactly what I paid for it. was an auto, dana 36 limited slip, 65k on it, complete assembly disk-to-disk including the emergency brake cables. Was gonna use it my 58 apache and decided to air bag it with a 4 link. There's a company that makes a bracket kit to bolt it right in to the TF chevy trucks. Let me know, I'm in dearborn, MI.

Re: starting my '56 upgrade project

I've got a dana 60 in my 59 from a f 150. It's heavy but if you
are putting a lot of hp it will take it. Only thing is it is 5 on 5 1/2
wheel pattern. I also have a 78 camaro sub frame installed.
Done right they are nice. That c-4 set up looks interesting.

Here's a site that has rear end widths for different vehicles. It should give you an idea of what might work.

Re: starting my '56 upgrade project

It has been quite awhile since I've posted on here, started into my project of rebuilding my 3100. originally had a caddy 500 CI BB, after checking dimensions with the camaro sub-frame I was planning to install, the BB is out of the budget range. found a donor truck with a corvette motor and 700R4 trans, the donor truck is an 83 chevy custom pu, did some early frame measurements and it looks as if the 83 frame is a very close match for swapping out the frame. was curious if anyone from the board could point me in a direction to research what needs to be done

Re: starting my '56 upgrade project

Check the frame width and how it kicks up. TF frames are 34" wide and flat the full length. You will probably find your is wider at the cab which will put the frame rails in the step area. The newer frame will also kick up which mean you will need to raise the bed and maybe the cab. Even with an "easy" kit it will be a challenge getting the cab, bed and front clip/rad support all mounted and aligned. Then you need to deal with brake pedal, steering, shifting and all the other little details.
