Re: Year One Crate Motor

I have a good friend who used to work for YearOne and they have had really good luck with that engine.....

He told me that they had not had hardly any problems out of the PowerCrate 350 model. He said they had some issues out of the big blocks but not the small block stuff.... but keep in mind that it's been a year or so since he worked there.

Thank You! I'll see if I can find it! They say it produces over 430 ft. lbs.of torque and you get your engine's dyno sheet.

Re: Year One Crate Motor

I bought one! 403.6 hp at 5800 RPM and 413 ftlbs of torque at 4100RPM
Pretty darn happy with the thing. everything looks really nice, they didnt cut any corners, Comes with a dyno sheet and a list of things like spark plugs, reccomennded oil, and total timing and other stuff to. Showed up in a heck of a crate too was pretty impressed. I'd buy one again!

Re: Year One Crate Motor

One really good thing about them is the roller cam. You don't have to worry about a flat tappet cam dieing with mainstream modern oil. And it's already got the initial run done, so you know it'll work.

Re: Year One Crate Motor

Well it needed the distributor i just used a GM performance parts HEI dizzy. Used my old water pump (it was new) ,pulleys, thermostat housing, ehaust manifold or headers, spark plugs, wires, Shippin took about 2 and a half weeks and it was crated REALLY well even wrapped in a plastic bag, all opening were plugged and the intake manifold was taped shut so no dust could get it, even comes with an oil filter. Only problem i've had with it is finding a dipstick for it, the only ones local part stores have is dipsticks for 1967-79 SB and you need an 80 and up dipstick.

Re: Year One Crate Motor

Is the block similar to a GM 350, meaning, can you put anything that would fit on a regular Chevy smallblock would fit on that motor?

Yes, and it comes with a new flexplate so you don't have to buy a new one if your old motor had a 2 piece rear seal style crank.

yep only thing that doesn't line up is if u have A/c with the vortec heads you need an aftermarket bracket. Also the only thing ive had a problem with is the dipstick. Nobody but summit sells a 1980 and up dipstick and they are all pretty expensive. other than that everything is universal

Re: Year One Crate Motor

Kind of odd that it comes with an oil filter but not a dipstick.

Re: Year One Crate Motor

Almost!, I'm really close, hassled with some transmission cooling lines last night but got the cooling system finished. Just need bolt the torque converter to the flexplate add transmission fluid, radiator fluid, throttle linkage, and gas and it'll go for its first test run. But the engine sounds like it means buisness and free revs pretty dang quick.

Re: Year One Crate Motor

If you just got a limited slip, maybe some 28x9.5reet radials, and left the original style hub caps, that would almost be as good as the oklahoma farm truck for sleeper-ness

Re: Year One Crate Motor

Aren't the original steel wheels 6.5 or 7 inches wide? If you're running those there's no way it'll look right if it works
