LMC Replacement Fuel Tank In-Cab
Need help, my fuel tank is toast. I have done the research and it would cost me about $120 to do it myself with new sender unit or around $200 for a brand new tank and sender unit from LMC. Is the replacement in cab tank from LMC worth it regarding quality, fit, and finish or should I just pony up remove the tank and do it myself?
What is wrong with my tank: Major rust and varnish issues inside Produces a rich rust color gas with chunks of rust and various gunk

Re: LMC Replacement Fuel Tank In-Cab
Can't tell you about LMC's tank quality but I can give you another reason to replace the tank. That is because the flange that snuggs the gas cap down is probably worn out. When that flange wares out the tank drips fuel when it is full and you are turning right. A new cap will fix it for a short time, but it will soon leak again, witch will cause you to think you have a bad gas cap, when in reality it is the flange of the gas filler neck. WES

Re: LMC Replacement Fuel Tank In-Cab
i got the lmc tank, my old one had a full tank of gas for 20 years. it rotted everything, the lmc bolted right in no problem. i used the original gasket for the filler neck.

Re: LMC Replacement Fuel Tank In-Cab
I replaced mine from LMC, had to do a little "tuning" with the filler neck but all in all it turned out nicely, I bought the new rubber for the neck but did not like the way it fit so went with the original.

Re: LMC Replacement Fuel Tank In-Cab
Ok put one on order w/ECC and a new sending unit and filler grommet. That should get my '71 GMC running by end of next week. I took a look at my '67 and will need to replace that tank as well but the '71 is the first priority.
Thanks all for the replies!

Re: LMC Replacement Fuel Tank In-Cab
There seems to be at least 2 manufacturers for stock in-cab fuel tanks. One type (which I bought from Goodmark) fit very well with a minor 'adjustment' of the filler neck. This tank had a corrugated filler next like the original, and was made in Canada. The other type was made in Taiwan, and was a disaster. The filler neck was not corrugated. It seemed that they didn't hold the halves flat when they welded it together, and the tank was warped better that 2 inches. No way could you get all the bolts in it. The flange at the top was too wide, and the tank would not fit under the upper inside cab corner on the left side. The filler neck was nowhere near the hole in the cab.

Re: LMC Replacement Fuel Tank In-Cab
I just bought a blazer tank from LMC to mount under the bed of my 67 C10... The tank is definitely not factory quality. At this point, I am still going to mount it in my pickup. If you really can't stand something that isn't OEM quality, I would not go with the LMC Truck one.. Or from what Bob B. is saying... call LMC and find out where they are getting these tanks made.
