Figuring Ride Height

Hey guys, I have a quick question about getting to your ride height. I have D2600 bags and the bag height is supposed to be between 6-9 inches. I've also looked around and I know PSI is personal preference but most people like 80ish in the front and 35ish in the back.

Getting the stance right in the back seems pretty straight forward. My thought it to figure out where is rides best and then use a lowering block to get the stance/ride height back down to where I want. My question comes on the front. How do I lower the front back down once I get the ride desired? Currently I'm have a 67 with disk brake upgrade from a 71, everything else is stock. My thoughts on options are, drop spindles or cutting the cups on the bottom a little. I'm guessing that cutting the cups though will lead to issues with the bag touching the lower control arm and I'll have to modify those.

What is everyone else doing to get their ride height and ride preference in line?

Re: Figuring Ride Height

You've got it right. Adjust the final height w/spindles & then further tweaks can be done via the lower cup height.

Re: Figuring Ride Height

I'm not familiar with the 2600 bags, but I cut off 1/2'' from the lower cup straight off. No interference with the bag. I used SD lower cup and re7.

Re: Figuring Ride Height

Thanks for the replys. When I searched I found that some people say you will have clearance problems running a drop spindle and a 15x8 rally wheel. Is that in all cases or only with specific brands of spindles?

Re: Figuring Ride Height

not 100% but i think drop spindles require 17". but now that i think of it, its not all of them. i had 2000 s10 a few years back running drop spindles and stock 15's. it just pushed them out about .5 inch, they were belltech. maybe only fullsize trucks require 17"..

Re: Figuring Ride Height

What protrash was saying is right, If you get the SD cups for the front. I have some for sell. Cut them down to 1" you wont have any clearance with them at all. You could also plate your lower control arm. You could also weld in a 8" pipe in the lower arm to make it sit just a little lower. I set the ride hight on my truck at 4" I just cut some 4x4 tube and set the frame on it. Then figure everything else from there.

Re: Figuring Ride Height

I know that my 20's are close enough to my 3in spindle that I think a 17in wheel would be close, so 17in wheels sound about right. Ride heights vary from different setups and people told me to set a ride height and align the front for your ride height. I don't have gauges so I can't. I do like a 1in ride height and take turns at stop lights very careful. I can turn left ok on a 4 lane but right turns are hard. I hit my tires a lot at first, still do some lol. I did my setup right but forgot gauges, mistake on my part but my first bagged ride and they are easily added.

Re: Figuring Ride Height

Check the laws on ride hight, I believe that Texas states that you have to have atleast a 3-4 ride height. That's why I set mine to 4". Doesn't mean I will ride at that height. I just wanted my truck to be setup at a level ride height. As far as spindles 3" you will have clearance problems mostly with the tierod end. Some people have to section the LCA to notch around their rims. Depends on your backspacing. 2 1/2 is a lot easier to deal with.

Re: Figuring Ride Height

OK so I'm just getting familiar to some of this, because my project is just getting going. I've bought alot of parts including the 2.5" drop spindles. So my ? is if you use these spindles you have to run a 17" wheel or am I confused.

Re: Figuring Ride Height

oldno7.......I'm not sure. I think the jury's out on this one. It depends on backspacing for sure. There is a thread on 60-66 section with trucks from Billetproof and they all have 15's and are bagged. I lowered my 'burb with CPP spindles(2.5'') and the 15's I originally had bolted on and barely fit. I had to grind the top of caliper/spindle casting to knock off just a tad and they worked.

I sold the ghetto-ass 15's and dont remember the backspace.

Re: Figuring Ride Height

I'm hoping that I won't need to run a 3" drop spindle, I'm not trying to get that low. I'm thinking somewhere between 2-2.5 will be fine, I just have to go out to the shop and actually air it up and measure. I'm guessing that the spindle drop and ride height drop are the same. 2.5 spindle will drop my fender 2.5, right?

Re: Figuring Ride Height

Wheel back-spacing plays a big part on 'will it' or 'won't it' work. I have Bell Tech 3" spindles w/15x6.5" GM van ralleys on my 74. It required trimming the lower a-arm lip around the BJ area.

Re: Figuring Ride Height

Are all the stock ralleys 0 offset? Meaning half the rim width is your backspace? I'm running 15x8 ralleys.

Re: Figuring Ride Height

Great looking 'burb, very clean and simple. i've been searching in the projects section to find someone with bags and spindles to see what it looks like.
