disapointing track results

took it to the track for hte firs time in 5 years on friday night.

ran a horrific 14.9 @ 86mph

problem being, traction off the line, or should i say lack of traction
then anything past about 4800rpms it fell flat as if it didn't have enough fuel.

first gear was ok. was able to hit 5500 before it fell flat, though it was misfiring between 4800 and 5500

second gear it wouldn't go past 5000, just felt like the power dropped out.

shifted to third and did the same thing and just felt really bad

Re: disapointing track results

CalTracs and some drag radials would help the traction issue. What was your 60' time?

Are you sure it was missing? Maybe the valve springs are weak letting the valves float.

That's a bummer deal Eric. Wish I could help you with your missing issue, but don't know much about engines. Hope you get it figured out. Should have hollared when you came through town.

yeah, the caltracs and a set of M&H drag radials are in the works.
60' was 2.25x

not positive about the missing, just what it felt and sounded like.
valve springs should be okay since they only have probably 20k miles on them, but who knows.

Check your cap/rotor for carbon tracking, might be time to replace. Worn cap/rotor will cause it to fall on it's face under load in the upper rpms. My last one (MSD) only lasted ~12k miles before the same thing happened to me.

Re: disapointing track results

good old cut and paste!

Look for carbon tracking on both the rotor and distributor cap, which shows that you've got an increase in resistance somewhere in the car's ignition system, such as a worn out spark plug or damaged spark plug wire.

Examine the distributor cap for cracks or wear in the plastic of the distributor cap on the inside near the contacts and elsewhere. Check the rotor for excessive wear as well.

Check the spring loaded contact button in the center of the distributor cap that drives the rotor. It should move freely and not be seized. If it is, replace the distributor cap and rotor with a new one
