Bought a F@RD!, big block EFI 460 1-ton... "PROJECT COUSIN EDDIE"

Does have some roof rot in the upper passenger nose cone but that will be a winter project... New brakes, great tires, CC, AC (needs recharged), 4,000 watt Onan generator with 13 hours on the meter, stove and microwave never used, fridge and frezer (AC or LP), shower, toilet, full bed in back and over sleeper, couch and dining area turn into beds, swivel chair behind pass seat, awning and other parts included. Couldn't turn it down... Thanks Big Al for the carfax...

craigslist is evil... Looks like a nice setup. The family will love it, our kids beg us to go camping in the travel trailer all the time.

Re: Buying a F@RD!, big block EFI 460 1-ton... "PROJECT COUSIN EDDIE"
Thanks Tim, it might come in handy at a local car show... say.. Carlisle???
Looks like i'm in for a total roof replacement though. After more inspection up top its got some soft spot and the original rubber is dry rotted... Had I known it was that bad I would have asked for another $500 off, since the roof alone is about $700 in product and tons of hours in labor. I think that I can tackle it myself. Now I just have to find some overhead cover to house this beast...

your motorhome and my boat. two completely different creatures but both have the same curse. has the "new purchase grin" wore off yet? mine turned to a frown on day 5.

I'd be interested in seeing these canopy plans. I may need to do something as well.

Re: Bought a F@RD!, big block EFI 460 1-ton... "PROJECT COUSIN EDDIE"
the canopy is made from 1 5/8 pole used for chain link fencing and a large tarp. so far I've only found kits online. I'm on the road using my iPhone so searching is a pain

Lots of luck with the new purchase, our family always had a great time camping and such, hope the same happens to your family.

Re: Bought a F@RD!, big block EFI 460 1-ton... "PROJECT COUSIN EDDIE"
good news, found some good RV forums with build pics for the roof. Also made it to an RV surplus near my dads in Indiana. picked up a new rubber roof, trim, glue, 4 new vents, putty tape, and some other little parts for $425. That's about 1/2 price for other places that I found.

Re: Bought a F@RD!, big block EFI 460 1-ton... "PROJECT COUSIN EDDIE"
well, measure twice cut once!!!!
while on vacation I had my buddy take a quick measurement of my roof so that I could buy some rubber roofing material for 1/2 price at a surplus store. Well, he must have misunderstood what I needed and the roofing is 1.5 feet SHORT!!! That's $150 wasted, unless someone needs some roofing on Craigslist... Looks like i'll now have to get more from the same company and pay shipping this time. I could make a seam but I would be PO'd if it leaked after a major reroofing project...

Re: Bought a F@RD!, big block EFI 460 1-ton... "PROJECT COUSIN EDDIE"
hopefully some good news will come out of this.. Craigslist rocks BTW, I put the roof on CL and have someone coming to buy it today. If it works out i'll make $50 on the deal!
That will pay for the shipping for the new roof unless I decide to wait till fall when my dad is visiting, he can just bring it then. Finally figured out the awning, it was easier than I suspected which is what made it difficult, if that makes since.

Re: Bought a F@RD!, big block EFI 460 1-ton... "PROJECT COUSIN EDDIE"
well, talk about falling into crap and smelling like roses. I sold the $150 (i spent) rubber roof for $200 today! That will cover the cost of shipping out my 30' rubber roof now!
Pulled the swivel chair out today, bought a new mattress, cleaned cushions, filled the LP tank, repaired a LOT of holes in the existing roof as well. I need to keep bandaids on it till I get time to rip the entire roof off and start over...

Re: Bought a F@RD!, big block EFI 460 1-ton... "PROJECT COUSIN EDDIE"
ok, since nobody is watching a motorhome build I won't put much effort in...
After realizing that my intermittent wipers didn't work and the windshield washer was broken as well, I decided to take some engine pieces apart. The washer bottle was buried under the spare battery but after testing the motor I found that it worked. Out comes the multimeter to check and for some reason it's not getting power. A little searching on the web led me to the MFS (multi function switch) as Ford calls it. The turn signal assembly with all the controls on it. So I pulled the steering column collar apart and was lucky to find that autozone has it for $59 in stock! Rock auto was $84 and who knows what ford wants for one. I'll pick it up tomorrow and see if we have washer fluid (which is an inspection requirement in PA) I'm shooting for a Canada trip next week so no time to waste with shipping either. New mattress is installed and I just ordered a 19" LCD w/ DVD and wireless headphones for the kids!!! Also ordered an Onan generator tune up kit.. man this hobby is $$$$$
