Edelbrock 1406 and 700r4

Just bought a 1986 C10. I have an Edelbrock 1406 that I want to put on. I did a search and can't get all the answers I need. What brackets do I need to hook this carb up to the 700r4 with a stock manifold? Part numbers for Summit/Jegs would be very helpful. I want to do this right the first time. The Rochester carb on there right now is in bad shape. I will get some pics up later. Thanks for the help.

Do you have cruise control?
You need this TV angle correction bracket.

Buy it at www.jcwhitney.com it's cheaper than jegs or summit.
Use Edelbrock's cable bracket if you don't have a stock cruise control setup.

Re: Edelbrock 1406 and 700r4

For starters look at an Edelbrock catalog or parts book. You will need a cruise control/tranny bracket to allow for connecting your goodies to the truck. If you plan on keeping the "Stock" manifold, then you will have a little issue with the matching of the bore patterns without getting a transition plate from the "square-bore" to the "Spread-bore" design. You will also need to make sure that your 700R4 cable is operating right, due to the TV cable is different than a "Kick-down" cable like a TH350 has. Many people go to places that sell OD trannys for this---I built my own and mounted it to the rear carb mounting bolt and used the extra hole in the carb's left rear foot as a place to ensure the bracket stayed in on place. I welded a pin onto my bracket to fit into that hole.

Look up these Edelbrock numbers

Cruise control bracket #1484
Quadrajet adapter plate #2696
Idle compensator solenoid #8059
Throttle and transmission kickdown bracket for 700 R4 #8036

Thanks for the replies. I do not have cruise control. So will that make a difference on what brackets I need?
Thanks.

Once again, take a look at edelbrock's webstie under accessories and see what they offer. Calll their tech number and go from there. The cruise control bracket gave me everything that I needed and it is easy to hook up.

Re: Edelbrock 1406 and 700r4

What size engine do you have? If it is a 305, why would you put a #1406 600 cfm verses the #1403 500 cfm which is what Edelbrock recommends. LMC recommends the 600 but I'm not sure I trust them. I bought some windows seals from them and they are the wrong ones. I was thinking I would replace my carb with the Edelbrock too.

It is true that the calculations will tell you that a 500 CFM carb will support a 305 engine. However in the case of the daily driver a 600 CFM carb is NOT overkill. It will allow you some deviation from the mundane go to work and back to get out and do some weekend hot rodding. Also, if you make ANY changes to your engine's Volumetric Efficiency, such as a better intake manifold, change cams, or even do a set of headers the 600 will allow for those changes. The calculations also give the numbers of a 600 CFM to handle a 350 engine, that is not very much difference in cubic inches to allow for the CFM numbers---with that I would say the 305 is right at the line for handling the engine with any modifications.

As for LMC, they ARE a warehouse outlet, not a speed shop. I would go to an engine builder for further information on the needs of your engine, not a group of guys that are working a parts sales counter. With that in mind, the process at LMC is not without error--if you got the wrong seals, tell them and they will make it right. I have gone to their sales counter and they are good people.

Re: Edelbrock 1406 and 700r4

I have a 350 and am using a 1406 on it. I spoke with a tech at Edelbrock and he gave me the parts that I needed for the TV cable geometry bracket. Found at the door this afternoon.

I have a 1406 Edelbriock Carb on my 396 and I haven't touched it since 2001 when I bought the truck.
