windshield area repair question
Have a 57 and am doing some changes to the metal around the upper part of the windshield - roof area. Does anybody have link to threads or sites where repairs have been made to that area or new roof skins installed that I could look at.
I am interested in how the inner and outer roof skins join above the windshield and that area where the windshield surround or frame is made. If not, does anybody have diagram from an assembly manual they could post or email me. i hate to buy the manual just to look at that one area. Any help is appreciated - |

Re: windshield area repair question
I rebuilt my whole window frame years ago. I'm not sure if anyone makes a replacement frame, I have seen new roof sections though. The roof has an edge that extends about a 1/2" toward the window. Is your window frame in good shape? When I made mine I cut seperate peices and tack welded them together then checked fit made any adjustments and final welded. It does take time. I have some pics someware , but they were taken way before ditigal. I'll try to copy them with my camera and post them tomorrow.

Re: windshield area repair question
Thanks. I'd love to see the photos. I am actually considering cutting the roof and making a convertible with folding top. I just was wondering what I was getting into when I start cutting the area above the windshield.
I'm still engineering how to seal the area around the side windows. I may use a "flipper" mechanism like is used on the early 50's Chevy hardtops. |

the pictures didn't turn out. Do you have pics of your area in question?
