Re: Problems lifting 2wd

They do not currently make a spindle lift for pre 88 trucks... that I am aware of. AIM did in the past but quite some time back and I have never heard anything good about them anyways. There are coil lifts available with tubular control arms but a spindle lift is the BEST way to keep steering geometry.

I have heard/seen people use the 88-98 4" spindle on pre 88 trucks. It does involve swapping a couple ball joints and I believe lower control arms. I have never done it or see a write up about it specifically for lifting a 2wd.

Using the coils is ok.. it gets the lift but it puts the tie rods/ball joints a severe angles and also almost eliminates any down travel in the suspension. The design of the front suspension does not lend itself well to lifting.

here is a thread with some pictures... for "inspiration".

Re: Problems lifting 2wd

I ran a ball joint spacer and a moog 3/4 spring on the front of my 78 blazer. The set up yielded me 5" up and 5" down travel. I also had a simple shock hoop with with two shocks per side. The stock upper arms were tabed and they ran to the top on the hood

Re: Problems lifting 2wd

here is the problem with running lift coils.. Granted the truck pictured is sans engine, but it still demonstrates the problem when trying to get too much lift from a coil.

On my 82 I ran 1 ton front coils and could fit 32"s with a slight rub problem.

Do you have any pictures of this set up?

Re: Problems lifting 2wd

my stock 2wd 1 ton fits 33, no rub
you can use 1 ton coils, but it'll ride rough as hell
ever think of a body lift?

You dont need 4", just 1ton coils. My 82 ran 31"s with no rubbing issues.

My truck with 32"s..

My old '79 2wd Blazer had a set of 32/11.5/15 on it. It was stock hight and no rubbing at all.

Re: Problems lifting 2wd

If you look at my pics I run 33x12.5 with no rubbing, actually it looks 4 wheel drive now. I used 3" Fab tech and ball joint spacer and a 3" body lift. I drive it everyday no problems and isnt really that much of a stiffer ride. I put Kyb lifted shocks though.
