Where did you get your wiring harness?

I'm thinking it's about time to rewire my whole truck. So I'm now looking for harnesses (new) that are pretty much plug and play and also project budget friendly. I remember seeing a thread here on this subject but I just can't seem to find it.

You can save a little money and go direct to M&H electric fabricators online.... Thats where most of the companys like Brothers and such get them from... I used to work there back in the 80s, one of the coolest jobs I had back then...

They seem to have everything I may need. But I'm hoping to find a bumper to bumper Kit. It appears to be all harness sections and no kits.

The only kit that I've found that is direct plug with everything is from LMC trucks. All the other kits you have to splice most of all your ends on it. I have a painless kit for the 64-66 and I had to splice all the ends!

Well, I'm considering all options. What I'm mainly concerned about is cost and getting a complete wiring system. Splicing wires I can do no problem.

The harness was manufactured to accommodate the factory dash supports while not interfereing with any aftermarket equipment that you install under the dash now, or in the future
Factory replacement items such as the original light harness grommets, headlight and park light connectors are also included. (This makes installation easy since you don't have to save and reuse old parts)
All of the Classic Update Kits come ready to connect to the updated alternator and original coil/distributor or most aftermarket systems without the needs for additional parts
Original design rear body weatherproof boot and tube assemblies and original design light sockets make attachement to the original or reproduction tail light assemblies as easy plug-in.
The dash cluster disconnect system, unique to American Autowire, is included in every complete kit. Using low insertion force connectors means that assembly and disassembly just became significantly less time consuming and cumbersome.
The fuse box and custom mounting plate are designed for bolt-in under dash installation
All required hardware is supplied
Instrument cluster wiring is designed with a "cluster harness disconnect" system for easy service and assembly
All original terminals, connectors, and light sockets are also supplied for original cluster gauges
Steering column connectors will plug directly into most aftermarket steering columns as well as 1969 and later GM columns which utilize stock GM turn signal switches
The original column can also be wired by using the supplied mating connector and terminals

The rear body harness assembly is designed to plug into the main harness in the original utilizing existing retainers
Flexibility in harness design allows for original or custom routing

Thats all I got too but I found it. Thanks everyone for the info so far. Now that I have found the other thread I was looking for I'm now headed in the right direction to finding exactly what I'm looking for.

I bought an E-z Wiring 21 circuit with matching gauges. The reputation behind the company is very good.

Yeah, I looked into the EZ wiring. I like what I saw. I also looked into Rebel Wiring and liked what I saw there too. I think I maybe going with Rebel on this one. We'll see how it works out. I have a couple of projects going right now so I may have the chance to try them both out. And so far after reading all the reviews I have, both companies seem to have real good reps.

Either one is a good choice, just dont go with the Painless, your basicly paying for the name to have the same harness. I wishI would have found this site before I bought stuff for my truck.

I know what ya mean. Thats why I try to research all my options before purchasing parts. I wanna put my money on what counts cause a name alone won't get ya anywhere.

I bought the American Autowire one. I haven't installed it cause my truck is no where near ready for it, but I opened the box and it looks like a pretty nice complete kit.

For what its worth, I bought an American Auto Wire kit for my 57 Chevy car...Great kit and highly recommend if they make one for our year truck.
I'm now installing a Painless kit in my 63 1/2 step and no comparison between the kits. AAW is the way to go as I said ,if made for our year trucks..Also not cheap but complete..

I have the AAW kit for my 64 and it is beautiful. All factory connectors and colors. Excellent instructions as well. It comes with additional circuits for ac,power windows etc...A really nice kit. Doug.

I know the M&H harness is a plug and play, they are made from the factory blueprints and have all the right clips and the plugs are all correct... You can get them stock or set up to what your runnin, HEI ignition and internal regulated alternator are a couple of the things worth lookin into...

as far as I can tell, the M&H doesn't come as a complete kit, you have to piece them together, is that right?

Yes thats right, you have lots of different harrness's on the truck ( engine,forward lamp,rear lamp, dash) to name a few... depending on what your doin to your particular truck you may not need all the harness's to complete the project...

yes i realize that....don't know about where you are, but here in Ok, after 43 years all my wiring is brittle and the grommets and such are not pliable anymore. I need the entire harness, as I would assume most do, I priced the piece it together method and was up to the cost of the American Autowire harness in quick order, and it didn't include all the switches, grommets, or all the upgrades the American Autowire comes with...
so to me it is a no brainer.....
I also realize the E-Z and Rebel are much cheaper, but they are also a universal type harness...it all comes down to personal choice and how many splices you will be able to live with

I rewired my whole truck. I wanted to keep the original connectors, etc so I went with some harness kits from American Classic Truck parts. They were much more reasonable than LMC and the quality seems pretty good. I didn't have any problems, other than having to grease up and push real hard on the connectors that go through the firewall.
