I saw one of them at one of the local wrecking yards last fall......don't think they were going to crush it.

Heck I remember camping in them. They were first class back then and alot of people built there own and did some real professional work on them to. Some of them people thought they were factory made by a trailer company they looked so good.

I remember seeing a few of those as a kid in CA.
What was even MORE bizarre was one of those with the nose of a 55-56 Cadillac.

I saw a few of those to, now that you mentioned it. People were real creative back then. These days if you do something like that they call you a redneck
I always have like homemade stuff that was well built

Re: 1963 gmc motorhome

One of my favorite classic books is Steinbecks' "Travels with Charley". (If you've never read it , Please do yourself a favor and read it)

He drives across this great country with his large poodle in a NEW GMC with a custon camper top and write's about the trip and the stops he made. He leaves his home in the upper northeast and travels due west to Oregon down to california, then back East through the mid-west, New Orleans and back up the East Coast.

They have his original fully restored GMC in his museum in California.

I'm going to do the same trip only starting in New Orleans, and tie in a reading program for schools. I've already lined up several large sponsors and auto places for the trip. I plan on meeting as many members as possible, from both this club and stovebolt 60-66 GMC etc.

Ought to be one hell of a 6 month trip!

Re: 1963 gmc motorhome

There is a guy on one of the truck boards who has one of those, but I think it might be a little later model.

He is a cabinet maker or some kind of construction guy.

He has the inside all set up for his tools, so he just drives to the jobsite and does what he has to do.

He likes listening to other construction guys complain about their truck payments on their newer shiny work trucks.

Another fellow in Oregon has a '65 one like that, that he went camping in... I think he added front disc brakes and got all the mechanical stuff working in the camper part.
