Swapping hood and grill?

Hey guys I'm in the process of tracking down a 62-66 gmc grill and hood to put on my 66 chevy. (I'm not 100% positive those are the right years but i know the 65 has what im looking for) Anywho, will i need the grill support or anything else to swap these out? If some of you have done this please let me know how it went.

Thanks

GMC grills are all the same '60-'66. Make sure you get a 1/2 ton truck grill and not a 1 ton grill. The brackets on the bak of the 1 ton are flat and they won't mount up to a 1/2 ton grill support. The correct 1/2 ton GMC grill should mount up fine to your '66. You may have to dirll a couple of holes, but it's no big deal.

I put a '60 GMC grill on my '63. I ended up buying a 1 ton grill without knowing there would be mounting problems. I had to get some brackets from a 1/2 ton grill to mount it up. It was a lot of trouble, but turned out nice. Would've been a piece of cake with the 1/2 ton grill to start with.

Check it out...

As you can see, I went with a '60 chevy hood. You shouldn't have any trouble with the GMC hood you want to mount. It should bolt right up. You may have to adjust the bullet shaped bolt (on top of the rad support) up or down for the hood latch. You also may have to adjust the bolt on either side of the hinges up or down to get the gap at the rear of the hood correct.

Good luck and post pics.

Re: Swapping hood and grill?

Hey welcome from another okie. I live here in Noble, and I don't see too many of the 60-66 GMC trucks. I know where there are some Chevys but no GMC's. You may pm Joe231, Jason65, or Scotts62 they may know a little more about this style of truck than I do. Good luck.

Re: Swapping hood and grill?

Hey there, you shouldn't have a problem bolting the hood up as mentioned above. Here are some pics of a '66 GMC hood latch (same for all 62-66).

Those are repro turn signals. The clears only came on the '62.

Re: Swapping hood and grill?

I have seen there are different font lettering on the 66 GMC grill than the 60-65.
