Man...just got a 'Reckless Driving' in the Chief...

Just got home from a little cruise with my son. Everything was going smooth, cruise'n slow down the strip...when these two kids pull up in a candy lime-green square-body...front aired up and gas'n the stock engine in low, with open flowmasters.

They kept at it for a while.....so, I had to do what any respectable, responsible father would do with their 8 yr old strapped in the seat belt...

FRY THE FRICKEN TIRES ON THESE FOOLS !!!

Before I knew it, I was surronded by 4...yes 4 of SJPD's finest....

He was bull$hit'n with me at first, saying "you should of let the other guy do it first, yada, yada, yada...." "How nice the truck was, yada,yada,yada..." "So, do the work yourself...." etc, etc, etc.

Then, he said that he could tow the truck, and place it in a 30 day hold....

Man...I dont need that !!!

He let the truck go, but gave me a "Reckless Driving"....I thought it should of just been a "Exhibition of Speed"...

As a kid, I got a E of S for frying the tires....anyway, the wife is pissed as she thinks this is a Misdemeanor...

Well, wonder if I can go to traffic school ??

Hopefully when you go to court your lawyer can get the reckless driving charge knocked down to something else.I don't know what the laws ar like in Cali, but in Illinois having reckless driving on your record is worse than having a dui on there.I've been fighting a reckless driving since October that I got for offroading.I wasn't anywhere near a road and don't know how the cops found me.

I was doing burnouts in my camaro in a parking lot oneday, and got popped...
tried a bunch of suff, reckless if I was doing it on purpose.. , or carless driving if "I floored it and the throttle stuck"
I got a careless...
the ticket wasn't much a couple hundred, it was the insurance rate hike that sucked money out of me for years...
try whatever youu can to get it deferred, or knocked down, 'cause if your insurance finds out ,its gonna suck!

I never understood why you could get a ticket for doing a burnout in an empty private parking lot...One of my friends got a ticket a while back for doing a burnout in a lot that his dad privately owned...

Sucks that ya got knocked Chief, but at least your boy had fun and hey, ya taught him a good lesson too... Always look out for the popo before doing illegal stuff.

Re: Man...just got a 'Reckless Driving' in the Chief...

I got my first ticket when I was 17 yrs old. I had my 67 firebird back then. I was spinning the tires showing off for a local kid that had a 69 roadrunner. As I was pulling off a sweet tire smoking burnout I look in my rearview mirror and see a police car about 3 blocks behind me pulling up to a stop sign at a street that crossed the one I was on. Right away I hung a quick left into a neighborhood. He hadn't had a chance to pull into the street or turn his lights on at that point. I started trying to lose him by making a bunch of turns. I did not see him at all for about a minute. Then I catch sight of him in my rearview mirror a long ways back. He speeds up and quickly catches up to me. This whole time I never broke the speed limit. He turns his lights on and I pull over right away.. My firebird got impounded and I got took home to my parents house in the back of his police cruiser. They were doing yard work when we rolled up. I still remember the look on there faces (I had never been in any kind of trouble before) He wrote me a ticket for exhibition of speed, reckless driving, Driving without a license, no proof of insurance.

I admit I was guilty of all that.. The burn out is what got me the reckless driving and exhibition of speed. So I guess I got the 2 for 1 deal..

Thing is I got caught by the local crooked cop. He was known for getting you for everything possible. Interesting side note.. He was married and had a young preg. girlfriend living in his home with him and his wife! (small town everyone knows everything about everyone)

A couple weeks later I get the court documents in the mail from the DA with my charges and what not. The DA decided to ad on felony evading!! WTF!! I read the report and am shocked by what I read. The bone head cop wrote in his report that I was flying thru city streets at 70+ miles per hour. Blew thru 2 stop signs and almost hit a child in the street. all while being chased by him with lights and sirens blazing. That was all BS lies!!

This story gets really involved but to cut it short I ended up making a deal with the DA to plead guilty and all charges were dropped. All I was stuck with was the reckless driving..

Man that was a crazy experience.. 10 yrs later I have been a very good boy ever since Not a single ticket..

Re: Man...just got a 'Reckless Driving' in the Chief...

That really sucks Chief. I know exactly how you feel. I just got a reckless driving ticket about 5 weeks ago. I don't mean to scare you, but in Oregon it is a class A misdemeaner. Hopefully not the same in Cali. I have a lawyer though and he helped me get it to where I plead guilty but it only goes on my record as a traffic infraction and if I behave it will disappear off my record in a year.

Good luck man. We are all here for you.

He actually loved it...he was cool and calm, and always has this "Ya, this truck is better than yours" look on his face.........He was mad the other guy didn't get a ticket too. Kids are so honest, they say whatever is on their mind. The cop asked wheres the hood, and my son said, "well is dosen't match the look of the truck..." The cop starting laughing.

Not sure if teaching him to do burnouts is a good thing... He already spins donuts in his modified Power-Wheels....

It sure did !!

One more thing, this other cop was eyeing my engine with a flash-light...and asked (thinking he was soooo smart) "Is there any illegal mods to this engine"......My son RIGHT AWAY says "No, my dad doesn't have any Nitrous" (guess we watch too much Pinks and Pass Time)....another smart one asked...."So, do you have the C.A.R.B. sticker for those headers ??"

I said...."It's a 63 ?!?!?" "Oh, ok then your cool"

Hate to hear that John, it's all part of growing up. I have yet to grow up. Your boy will always remember that in a good way. But will realize the price we have to pay to have some fun.
