Here is a good reason to quit driving your truck...

So I have been working on reviving a 69 C/10 SWB. It has been sitting for a long time. I decided to check the carrier bearing and here is what I found:

Easy fix....just don't get them out of phase.

No offense, but this just looks like poor preventative maintenance to me.

Glad you caught it though before something or someone got hurt.

Thanks for the reminder on keeping them in phase. I picked up a new bearing this morning at my local Napa for $21...now just to find time to install it.

That's nothing some banana peels and saw dust won't fix.

No, that's for differentials! Maybe gearboxes too, I don't remember all the old stories...

Re: Here is a good reason to quit driving your truck...

mine doesnt have tha problem.
i cant understand why gm built a carrier shaft without a slip in the rear, to allow for rear end movement. and i really dont see how a solid carier bearing would hold up in that situation.

nows a good time to inspect the rest of the shaft and have it ballanced. or replaced with a 1 piece since its a swb.

Hmmm... Mine's not much better than the one in the video. Should I really quit driving it until I get that replaced?

Mine was in worst condition and drove it like that for about 350 miles, switched to a 1 piece driveline, no more problemo.
