Calling all FORMER high school 67-72 Chevy/GMC owners

After seeing the current high school owner thread I was wondering who has owned their truck, or one like it since high school? I started my obsession back in 1987 with a 69 Chevy LWB with the olive green/white 2 tone paint scheme and have had a 67-72 of some sort every since. Who out there has had one since high school????

72 GMC SWB in 87. I traded the truck for a 35 Chevy 5 window coupe. My cousin bought the truck years later and still owns it now. OBTW, I graduated from Smithville, OK.

Re: Calling all FORMER high school 67-72 Chevy/GMC owners

I got my 72 GMC LWB my junior year of HS (97). I did a lot to it over the years, but by the time I finally was in a position to build it the way I really wanted it I decided I was better off starting over, so I got my 68 SWB and sold the GMC to pay for part of it.

My first vehicle was a swb 72 cheyenne, three speed 350 with ps and pb. I did not realize at the time how original it was at the time and ended up swapping motors 9 times- had a heavy foot last incarnatin was a 575 hp roller 408 with 4,000 stall and tci trans w/ brake and 4.56 gears- broke the frame in three places and my neck in the process but it was a fun truck.

Re: Calling all FORMER high school 67-72 Chevy/GMC owners

I inherited my 1970 lwb 6cyl 3 spd manual ( 41,000 original miles in 83)when I was 14 years old in 1983 upon the death of my grandfather. I can remember playing in it as a child with a faint new smell still present. I drove it all through high school and the first year of college. I still own it and am attempting to restore / mod it and get it back on the road. It has been a long winding road, including the birth of twins and replacing all major appliances and a complete bathroom remodel in my home over the past 3 years.

mine started in 1969 when my parents bought a CST short fleet brand new, then in 1972 an uncle bought a brand new cheyenne20 4x4. mom and dad traded the 69 in on a 72 scout II but i did end up with the 72 cheyenne from my uncle several years ago. i was 11 when mom and dad bought the 69 but i swore i'd own one some day--now i've had over 200 67-72 trucks, blazers, and suburbans and still have 2 trucks and a burb.

Re: Calling all FORMER high school 67-72 Chevy/GMC owners

I got my 69 Chev when I was 13. I was working for my uncle at his shop changing oil when he got a call to try and get an old truck going that had been sitting in a barn for 11 years. I guess the guy that owned it had passed away and the family was selling the truck. My uncle put a battery in it and some gas in the carb and she fired right up. They offered it to him for sale but he had a 72 Cheyenne Super (that I loved) so he told me about it and my dad and I went and bought it. Still have it today. Drove it all through high school and rebuilt it while I was in university. I moved away after university and left it at my parent’s house but am driving it the 2700 miles to my new home in a little over a month.

Was driving my 68 K20 burb my senior year in 1986, it wasn't mine at the time but Dad let me use it.

He gave me the title to the burb around 1995?

Still have it.

Well, I was in High School in the fall of '71, so even the '67's were still too expensive for my taste-so I bought a $200 '55 First Series.

Got my 67 my senior year and drove her daily for 3 yrs until i had to have something bigger for the family. Now she is slowly being reatored. Dang i miss driving her. It never seems to matter if they are loud or quiet these trucks are head turners.

Re: Calling all FORMER high school 67-72 Chevy/GMC owners

I got mine my junior year a little before I turned 17, I guess it was right about the first of February 2005. Drove it through the rest of high school and somehow managed to not destroy it. I'm going into my fourth year of school at the University of Georgia and still drive the thing everyday. Still has been the only mode of transportation that I've ever owned.

I have put a fresh motor in it and rebuilt the transmission last month, so mechanically it's bulletproof, but for the most part it still looks the same as when I bought it. I have managed to accumulate dents from hail and a couple others that have "mysteriously appeared", I guess that's all part of it being a daily driver though.

I didn`t have one in high school. They were new then.I drove a`56 VW bug. But,I graduated in`73 and that summer I bought a`72 shortbed off the OK Used Car lot and have had at least one in the driveway ever since.I`ve had as many as 11 at one time.I just can`t imagine life w/o one.I`m down to four with two for sale...scary.

Me niether----but Mom bought her '70 Jimmy in '71 while I was still in Jr. high!!!! In June '72 Mom saved our lives in it getting us out of a flash flood that ended us up with no home and no possessions.
I got to get my learners permit, first drivers license, first piece of a-- and only DUI in it by the time I was 18.
She wouldn't sell it to me so by '79 cars could only do so much and I needed to buy a pickup and got a good deal on a nice '72 C2500. (still drivin' it alot!) Mom still won't sell me the Jimmy.
Early in 2001 the Jimmy was makin' a knock so she thought the engine was done, but that wasn't the biggest problem. at 77 years old she decided it was just too hard to climb up into. My sister and brother in law gave her a car and she finally gave me the Jimmy. Flex plate was badly cracked causing the knock. It was no "cherry little old ladies" truck as she wheeled it and it never saw a garage.
Mom would be 86 tomorrow (July 15) but she passed away May 18th 2009. I am very thankful to have this truck.

Later---DAC

Re: Calling all FORMER high school 67-72 Chevy/GMC owners

I got mine at 15 when I was a sophmore in like 83. It was my dads and I kind of just took it over. It was being used to hold garbage until it was full, then haul it to the landfill. And sometimes hauled wood because that was our heating fuel back in the day. My grandpa bought it when it was just a year or 2 old I think. It's in full rod-storation mode right now and I miss hearing it run and the 2-55 AC system.
