brake controller install

Has anyone here installed a brake controller on their 99-02 Chevy or GMC? I thought I would move the unit from my 97 over to my 00 but I read there is a plug in harness under dash to buy for these years. Does it plug into that black covered box to the left of the brake pedal? Plug n play so to speak!

Re: brake controller install

Does your truck have the factory installed receiver & the big trailer plug under the rear bumper, if so then all you need is the black(or blue) pigtail/harness for your trailer brake control. Just be careful GM changed the wiring configuration in 03 or 04 (??) If you need a pigtail I have some. James.
And yes it plugs into the box under the dash by the e brake.

Re: brake controller install

It does have the heavty duty towing package. I had a drill in my hand about to put a hole in the firewall like my 97 to hook it up and I remembered reading something about the newer ones plugging in under the dash.
Looks like a good time upgrade controller anyway. Think I'll get a Prodigy this time and the harness with it. Thanks Packrat.

Re: brake controller install

I put the Prodigy controller in it and bought the correct plugin harness for it. All in and done in 15 minutes. What a deal. It will be a while before I use it but it's in there and ready.
