Re: What did you get done 7/12/09 edition
Back to life- It's been two years (at least) since my 77 Cheyenne went down. Today I decided despite the heat, it was time to resurrect it back to life.
For those that don't know the whole story let me back track. I volunteered to judge a High School car show for a buddy of mine that is a Auto Tech teacher. On the way home, the truck over heated. I discovered that I had a blown water pump gasket and he went home on a rollback wrecker. My spare time has been devoted to traveling with my daughter while she tours the country playing volleyball. Between running an ever growing small company, and spending time with family I had no spare time for my 77. Two Summers ago I did pull the water pump and replace the gasket. After I got it running I realized both exhaust doughnut gaskets were blown. I finally found replacements for them and got them partially installed. I was called away and never got back to finish the job. Call it lazy, busy, or just mental block but two Summers rolled by and I never touched the truck. It wasn't until I recently won the Air Ride Tech contest that I was motivated to get him back on the road. I put the doughnut gaskets back in only to find a collector gasket broken. I located a replacement and finally got it installed today. After a jug of fresh Castrol was installed, and everything double checked it was time to bring him back to life. Unfortunately the Ramjet wanted to be stubborn and wouldn't take prime. While researching the problem and testing the fuel pump, I determined it was just empty fuel lines and manged to get him to start hitting on 2-3 then 4 cylinders. After several cycles of off-on-start fuel finally found all 8 injectors and the motor begin to smooth out. I double checked everything once more, aired up a low tire and took him out for a spin. The old gas didn't smell too good so I topped off the tank with a few gallons of high octane. After a nice drive through the country, he starts with a bump of the key, and revs quick once again. What did you get done?

Ken Happy you got it going again. Look and sounds good..
Well my wife just about left me today, I told her that I would not buying any new project before we buy a new house. Well I found this and could not pass it up for the money. It's a 96 with 180,000 and trans is not going into 4th, but it was to good to be true.. Here is some pics and I can not put any money into it or my wife will walk out on me.

Re: What did you get done 7/12/09 edition
I sealed up a leak I found in my radiator.
I also worked on adjusting my shift linkage to get smoother (not quite smooth yet) action out of all three speeds plus reverse--thanx go to Green Machine's FAQ and Tech thread on that! I drove to the nearest grocery store...and sprung a different leak in the radiator!

Spent most of the week end at Pinks All Out. Saw some pretty fast cars to say the least.
Also got some work done on the truck today. Updates are in my build thread. |

Re: What did you get done 7/12/09 edition
After replacing the doors, fenders, inner fenders, hood, and bumper this past week I finally got the Heap back together. Thursday was spent shooting the dash, steering column, and steering wheel. Friday allowed for some fine tuning on the body gaps and getting the dash back together. I took the old girl on a 350 mile run saturday and she did just fine.
I know, you guys need pics, it rained most of today so I'll get some tomorrow and post'm up.

Re: What did you get done 7/12/09 edition
SWEET SIXTEEN! We did the daughters birthday festival. We rented a party bus & took the group out for some fine dining, crusing, & then to the local entertainment joint for bowling, games, go-karts, & laser tag.
Why does this kid have such a big grin??

Actually I was going to buy her one until the gas went ballistic. She loves her Saturn, but still wants an H3. Looks like a good Graduation present.

Re: What did you get done 7/12/09 edition
Friday I got the Alpine installed:
Saturday I installed the trouble light that I took out of the Burb, and painted the rear frames of the wing windows: My 6 year old daughter wanted to help take the Burb apart, I'm not gonna say no to that! Saturday afternoon/evening, went cruizing with some of the local gang: Sunday we took the truck to Denver to board member Lemield's house and picked up this door jack. This will be a huge help in rebuilding the door hinges: Then I stuffed myself stoooopid at dinner, had a good moderators meeting in chat, then went to bed.

Re: What did you get done 7/12/09 edition
Took the wife out for 16th anniversery dinner on Friday.
Swapped intake gaskets on the 99 5.3 Saturday, took 3 cans of carb cleaner to get the tthrottle body decent, did not fix my miss, so next it's injectors and feul rails (they're rusted! Incredible). Finished the exterior of my parts shed, next some lvelelling of the saned then a wood floor with plastic an da bunch of shelves and I can start to empty the collapsed shed, the garage, the back seat of the 99, the front seat of the 87, and all the other little hidey holes for parts.
