Alignment tool.

I'm sorry I gotta ask this question of y'all, BUT........I can't find a clutch alignment tool for my truck. The engine's a '72 402, clutch is 12". I've been to NAPA (where I spend most of my money). I've checked the Classics Parts, & LMC catalogs. They want you to buy the whole kit & kaboodle just to get the plastic tool. I can't even locate a 4 speed out put shaft. Can anyone give me a suggestion? Thanks everyone.

Re: Alignment tool.

in a pinch, like you're in, usually very late at night......measure the ID of the pilot bushing in your crank, and measure the OD of the input shaft of the tranny, then get some sockets of the closes size....add and extension to it, then ,bammm one home made alignment tool.... we had to do this (late one night) when stabbing the engine in my brothers 02 TA scroll down about 3/4 down the page

Re: Alignment tool.

Thank you sir....I guess in my frustration I wasn't thinking clearly enough. I should've realized there's often more than one way to do just about any job.

Re: Alignment tool.

seems kinda weird though. Sould either be a 10 or 26 spline input shaft. I didn't think those were that hard to find.

Re: Alignment tool.

It should be ten spline on 1-1/8 inch which I think should be available at most parts houses.

Lisle makes a universal one that should be available where Lisle tools are sold.

Dorman help makes a plastic one

Re: Alignment tool.

My local O Reilly auto parts has a tool loan program and that is one of the tools they loan.
