What are these?

Can someone tell me what these are for? There is one on the driver and passenger side. They attached to the frame right next to the exhaust manifolds. Are they just heat shields?

72 Suburban with 350 auto.

Thanks

Re: What are these?

Hadn't seen any that look like that before. But haven't looked that close at a suburban manifold either.

Re: What are these?

I had those on a 72 pickup I had. I thought they were heat shields.

Re: What are these?

Heat shields have only seen them on sb trucks. BB trucks had a kick panel (pass) shield only, don't think that 6 cylinder trucks got any type of shield.

Re: What are these?

They are wind diverters. The direct the wind into the exhaust manifolds to help cool them.
