What's this part? (shock absorber install piece)
Got my Doetsch Tech shocks tonight for the '72. Can anyone tell me what the heck the piece is for that's highlighted in the attached photo? (This is just a stock photo and not the right shock -- only the highlighted part matters.) I suppose this is a dumb question, but....

It's just an optional way to mount the lower part of the shock. You don't need it. Newer vehicles sometimes use them.

Correct! In some applications that piece slids through the lower eye and is attached with two small bolts.
