Nice looking 4WD on E-bay

NOT MINE.....Looks good, but how many things do you see wrong. From the sway bar brackets to the rear shocks, the CS on the VIN, strange / broke bracket under the radiator, a/c on a 6 cyl?? 73 up frame?? Just to name a few. It's not cheap either, Shows that some people just don't care as long as it looks OK. I'm sure he won't care since he's selling, but I sent a note to him anyway.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevr...fCarsQ5fTrucks

Wish I knew how to shorten that. Greg

Re: Nice looking 4WD on E-bay

How short do you want it,Greg? It`s already a shortbed.
Chevy only built 2,550 and that`s not one of them. It`s a converted 2wd.Look at the front spring shackle mounting, hacked engine cradle, and crossmember at the rear of the transfer case that doesn`t belong there. That`s more than a 6 cyl/2wd body swap.

appears to be a 203 T-case. no CST door panels either. definitly a converted 2wd frame and the VIN backs that up.

Re: Nice looking 4WD on E-bay

But,it is nice .I see it`s over 10Gs.I wouldn`t be too happy if I thought I was buying an original, which is how the ad appears.Jerry, you`re right. It doesn`t have bright wing windows either. It`s a nicely "put together" truck.Or,it appears to be nicely done.I`d steer clear of that sight unseen sale for sure.

Re: Nice looking 4WD on E-bay

I also emailed some questions about his "factory" 4x4...lets see if he responds. I am convinced that people buy these trucks and have no idea what they are getting...then you have some who know what they are selling and are trying to get a big $$$. He did know the volume was low on 1970 trucks due to the GM Strike that year.

Re: Nice looking 4WD on E-bay

ebay ad...
Quote:
Chevrolet only built 2,550 of these trucks in 1970 due to a strike shortened production year and there aren’t many left on the road. There are very few in this good of condition and I haven’t seen any in Florida that come close to this one.

His reply...

Quote:
Thanks for the compliment, but let me correct you about the ad. I never said it was a factory 4x4 and anyone that knows anything about Chevy P/Us in this era would readily know that it was originally a 2WD 6 cylinder truck. However, the VIN on the frame matches the VIN on the cab as well as the glove box so I'm sure of the model. I've had a few comments about this and it suprises me that anyone would expect an unmolested truck in this good of condition to be sold in this price range. A perfect truck in from era would sell at twice the price. Good luck in your search.
Maybe its me but the ad sure looks misleading...

Re: Nice looking 4WD on E-bay

GM built few swb 4wds every year between 67-72,strike or not.Either he`s pretending to know his stuff and got screwed without knowing it or he knows his stuff and is trying to screw someone else.I think he knows.I`m not impressed with his saying he bought this from the former owner?Who else would you buy it from? It`s like he wants it to appear that was the same as original owner. But,he says it was garage kept for the past two years.WOW!! It was only outside for 37 years, not 39!

He replied to my note also. Said the same thing, the frame has the correct VIN. Somebody worked hard to combine those 4 trucks!

At least a 67-72 is still bringing in some good size bids in this economy.

Re: Nice looking 4WD on E-bay

Yeah, that`s what I was thinking. But,that`s for a fairly rare factory truck which this one isn`t.That`s my point. It`s a good thing the guy had the reserve set higher.I smelled a legal mess if someone laid out 5 digits for a counterfeit truck.I`m not even saying it`s not worth that much. But,in this case the decision to buy at that price would be based of false claims.

Thats exactly right...his reply to me wasn't convincing when he said...

"I never said it was a factory 4x4 and anyone that knows anything about Chevy P/Us in this era would readily know that it was originally a 2WD 6 cylinder truck. However, the VIN on the frame matches the VIN on the cab as well as the glove box so I'm sure of the model."

He is in my opinion fasely selling a non-factory 4x4 as a factory 4x4...If I bought that truck with the opinion it was all factory and then found out it wasn't...I would be one unhappy camper.

Re: Nice looking 4WD on E-bay

Yeah, the 2wd frame matches the 2wd body. But,they made more than 2,550 of those. Why state how many of what it ain`t were made?Obviously misleading.
