Original bedwood and bedwood paint (pic)

The original owner of my truck must have bought the truck and immediately put a steel plate in the bed. When I removed the steel plate the bedwood and strips still had the original paint on them.

Now that I'm doing a resto, I'm considering using the original wood since it's still in good shape. My plan is to put another coat of paint on the top side and then soak the underside with Linseed oil.

Anybody know what paint I should use or have any other suggestions?

Ain't that the truth. Very nice looking original bed, especially for up in your neck of the woods.

Definitely reuse it.

The truck was definitely not babied. The factory helper leafs made lots of contact with the stops. There was coal in the stake pockets and plenty of wear on the tail gate.

On the other hand, all of the bed panels were straight (even the gate).

There was a 3/16 steel plate in the bed. He even welded angles to it and bolted it to the sides! Like it was going to go somewhere!
