cheap lightweight flatbed??????
what's up ya'll?....sweet forum you have here......i'm glad to be a member...
so anyway,i'm looking for a cheap lightweight aluminum flatbed to put on my 77 silverado 1/2 ton/454...........longbed....anybody got any ideas......thanks,jeremy

I think I see the problem. You used the words "cheap", light weight", and "aluminum" in the same sentence. Cheap cancel's lightweight and aluminum every time.
Even if you buy the aluminum at scrap price and can do your own welding, it ain't gonna be cheap or easy to build a sufficiently strong 8 foot flatbed. very lightweight and very cool, YES. Cheap, just ain't gonna happen. Look around for a dead roll back car hualer, cut down the bed, mount it on your frame and part out the rest, that's about the most economical way I can think of to get where you want to be... RED |

the best bet i could figure out is to try and find out on craigs list or the local junkyards if anyone has an old home depot or lowes truck with a flatbed that you could buy

hey,thanks.those are excellent ideas.....i will keep my eyes open.......but what company sells the simplest of flatbeds without tool boxes on the sides? all the ones i find have these boxes.....thanks for the reply's.....

It appears that we have differing opinions of what constitutes "cheap"! LOL. I'll guess that you'll have $26-2700.00 invested by the time that "entry level" bed is installed, My CSOB gene just won't let me sink that much into a truck bed... Even a real purdy one. RED

you can weld up or make a steel rams and wood center boards...
that's a "cheap lightweight" bed.. and wood is replaceable..

well angle / sq tubing etc.. witha wood bed would be close to old school" flat bed.. and be inexpensive..

My dad had this one made in the late '70s/early 80's out of diamond plate. It ain't light but it's sturdy.

Years back I bought a Featherlight 96x108 for my K30. I'm sure they cost a lot more today. It was light for it's build and very stong.

my dad just bought one identical to the one Dooley posted, used, for $1000. in nice shape too, keep an eye out and buy local classified ad magazines
