59 GMC to 66 frame

eyy i have a 59 GMC 1/2 ton stepside shortbed project that i am working on. and i have decided to focus all of my efforts to turning it into a racing specd prerunner. but that cant be achieved by using the stock suspension so anyway i have been thinking bout swaping the 66 1 ton frame to my GMC body, and then maybe purchasing a fabtech long travel kit (lyk dino did with his 67, major props to the guy great job) and then getting the rest of parts/accesories from camburg. only problem (besides money and experience) is that i think it is a long bed. but that aside i NEED help with my project, not that much money to work with only in high skool haha gettin paid couple hundred bucks a week nd need to get the truck done by the time i get my license. but once its done IMA BE ROLLING WIT DA 37 BAJA'S ND BE REPRESENTIN DA 16 INCHES OF TRAVEL ALL NITE BABY hahaha thx for the help everyone!!

Re: 59 GMC to 66 frame

IIRC, the biggest problem you are going to have is the later frame is much wider then the 59. The 59 is more of a ladder frame where the rails a straight, front to back.

A very common frame swap on 47-59 trucks is an S-10 frame. You might be better off using one of those and there should be a bunch of aftermarket pre-runner stuff for that frame.

No matter what you do, it's not going to be cheap, especially if you don't have a garage full of fab equipment. Good luck and post up pics if you get this project going.

We were given two ears and one mouth for a reason... listen twice as much and speak half as often...
