WIW 1987 body

My brother just bought an 87 shortbox 4x4 to use the drivetrain ,wiring and other needed parts for his 37 Plymouth build.
Is there a market for the body from the front bumper to the rear bumper. Can you give an Idea WIW. Never been wrecked and is dent and rust free. Thanks-- Dennis

If that cab is completely rust free I think it's worth more than 500. I know I would pay more than 500 for it if I needed it.

Re: WIW 1987 body

Shouldn't be a problem parting it out, but like stated above the shipping is the big issue. Not every buyer is going to be in your area. If you have the time and space to store it while it sells it's better than the alternative.

I have a 22 foot cargo trailer that I just put on ebay. Maybe it will go back east. Have to keep that in mind. Dennis

Put it on Craigslist for 1850.00 Make it clear that it has no motor/transmission and I'll bet you get some hits.

Re: WIW 1987 body

Thanks--That gives us some idea of value. I would hope to get more than 300 for the short box. I do body work and painting and I know when I say the bed is laser straight and looks like nothing was hauled in it. Not even a ding in the tailgate. Thanks again.

Re: WIW 1987 body

If it was me, I would sell the truck whole and get a Suburban or something similar to part out. If the truck is as nice as you say (and the pics seem) I would bet it would bring close to 5K, provided it has decent miles and is not ragged out. 4Wd burbs here are waaaaaay cheaper, and have all of the same parts you are looking for anyhow.

Re: WIW 1987 body

wheel base is what he was after. Between 115 and 117 will work. No cutting frame, driveline, brakelines,e-brakeline or the wiring harness. I know it can be done rather easy, BUT, this is way easier.

Re: WIW 1987 body

"I saw a wrecking company down in OR that had a '07 3/4 2wd truck (17k miles) that looked like it had been damaged on every body panel but the add said "lot drives".
The truck was ~$5000 complete."
This quote is in the LS1 or smallblock question in nearby Oregon. Sounds like a marriage made in heaven. Take the body off the '87 and put it on the '07. Instant cool truck.

Re: WIW 1987 body

Way to many wires and computer stuff in the 07 for this quick build. This 87 IS what will be used.
Just needed to know what the market value was on this body or parts. They are very nice condition. The pickup cost him 3,200, and if he can get 1000 out of the body it puts him back within his budget of 2000 to 2500 he wanted to stay within. It sounds here like he can--in time-- get that.

Rust free and straight should go pretty quick. Good luck with the sale, so he can get back to his project.

Re: WIW 1987 body

I had two straight, rust free short beds here in Seattle. Advertised both (buyers choice) for months before I was able to sell one for $250.
You can put a starting price of more and keep your hopes up.

Front clip maybe $250.
Doors maybe $50 each
Cab - I have sent more than my fair share to the crusher with no interest.

It's all in the timing I think? You might get lucky and find a person looking for what you have and be willing to pay for it. I haven't had that luck.
Problem is that there is just too many of these available for parts so it keeps the prices down.
With that said, I am in Seattle and have lots of competition trying to sell parts. Where your at the supply is probably more limitied so you might have a better chance?
