Brake drum won't come off!
Guys, I need help, I need this truck for the week! I went to check my rear shoes today. The right side drum wasn't coming off, so I attempted to turn the star wheel. I turned it the wrong way (tightened). So I went to go the other way and the star wheel adjuster won't move at all and I rounded it off.
How can I get this drum off?!

Re: Brake drum won't come off!
Wowzers. I'd make the edge of whatever you are adjusting SQUARE like with a grinder, like a new screwdriver. Then I would make SURE you are turning it the right way. You must remember I think the left and right wheels adjust in an opposite manner. Get sure you are turning it correctly, and if you have to, use your tool as a chisel and hammer it until you get it loose. the important thing is to adjust it in the correct direction.

Re: Brake drum won't come off!
cmc,
You need to go into the adjuster hole with a small screwdriver and push the adjuster lever off the adjuster wheel, While holding this lever off the wheel slide a larger screwdriver (brake spoon) next to the small one and back it off. A little penetrating oil sprayed through the hole onto the adjuster threads would surely help, It can be cleaned off with brake cleaner once the drum is off. Good Luck

Re: Brake drum won't come off!
Restrorob sent in a cool picture. I see tie rods in his photo, but, of course it's not a rear wheel. I can't remember when I had a front wheel self adjuster, but there it is. I guess I have had disc brakes too long. I forgot about moving the ratchet lever up. Good hint Restorob.
