Re: 1972 SWB Thinking of buying

A friend of mine has lost interest in the truck, he has offered it to me at a fair price.

Specs: Built 383 stroker with aluminum trick flow heads
Built TH 400 w/2500 stall
Complete billet serpentine belt system
Completely rebuilt suspensions with 4" front drop 6" rear drop
New 17X7 front wheels, New 17X8 rear wheels matching steer. wheel
New vintage air A/C needs finished hooking up
Has all new windows and rweatherstripping and power windows
Needs complete interior comes with factory buckets
Comes with rear disc brake kit and lots of misc.
Paint and body is very nice, and lots of chromed & polished/billet etc.

I have a 71 LWB, I started collecting parts for along with a SW bed to make a shorty, I just don't think I can build it for was this is offered me for.....
My buddy says he has close to 35K in this one and has offered it to me for less than half.

Re: 1972 SWB Thinking of buying

I agree, if you like it, go for it. If you just price the parts he's got 15-20K into it at retail...Add in labor and paint/body work and you're up there in a hurry.

However, honestly, if you're going to pay 17-18K for it, you can get a heck of a truck from here or on Ebay that's complete and maybe has more customized or maybe one that's around 7-10K and in need of some more parts.

If you like the truck and want to help your buddy, get the truck. If you want to change some things anyways I'd look around. There have been some sweet trucks selling on ebay from the 12-15K range.

Re: 1972 SWB Thinking of buying

15K buys it. I think all the parts are worth that , with out the labor . Pictures don't show , but it has near show quality paint and bodywork. I am having a hard time talking myself out of this one.

Your not going to buy anything close to that for 15k. He has half of that in paint and body work alone. Cut your best deal and move on it....or tell me where its at...

Re: 1972 SWB Thinking of buying

Naah, I will probably send a deposit tomorrow. He is a good friend, and I've told him I'll take it. Sometimes its nice to get some re-assurance when I can feel a severe "you bought what" coming from my wife! Kind of like evidence , know what i mean? My dad has 4 of these trucks... 2-- 69's , a 71' and a 68' ....they really got my heartrate up, and I thought my buddy would never sell this one for less than 25K or 30K. These thngs are addictive. I will post pics of all my Dad's stuff soon. Thanks for the encouragement!

Re: 1972 SWB Thinking of buying

Another point to consider...if your friend was building that truck for himself...he likely has done a very good job in body and paint work plus he likely using quality parts. As said for $15K...that is a very good deal.

Re: 1972 SWB Thinking of buying

This old girl finally came home last weekend. Wife even approved! Probably going with original super cheyenne type interior in black with a houndstooth bench and custom aluminum gauge panel to tie the all the billet to the interior. Anyone remember the article how to bolt the existing gas cap solid and leave in place if I move the tank under the bed?

Re: 1972 SWB Thinking of buying

Thanks, yours too.....Where is the best place to buy the trim from? This trim is decent but held on with mostly double sidedtape mounts and I'd rather have the original type mounts even if it means drilling holes in the body.
