venting... tired of getting pulled by police
I just got my 1970 hugger orange 4x4 chevy going and since then my local pd has pulled me over for more things. Their always polite but this is nothing more than police opression. They always ask "so have you had anything to drink? no no no and no but they keep on trying. ie no front plate(don't need one) couldn't see a tail light worked fine. So I've contacted a attorney about this harrassment and the said that they must dammage me in some way inorder to smack their hand. Before i got her running i wasn't pulled over for over 5+ years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have you other lifted 4x4 guys expieranced the same thing?

Re: venting... tired of getting pulled by police
Meanwhile as they have you pulled over checking you out for "public safety" reasons, over 3 vans of illegals up from Mexico skirt by you, a drug ladden u-haul truck zooms by and 2 stolen cars zip by you.
Just play the game I guess. Maybe he's a closet 67-72 chevy truck fan waiting to come out??? Just make a comment to him and ask him "Hey Barney, is that your single bullet in your shirt pocket there?" (ie Andy Griffith show) and see what he says heh heh heh. I said "Thanks Barney" to a policeman in a town where they pull you over because you have one headlight out (that's what they watch for). I saw him scurry from a car he had pulled over, make a u-turn so he could nab me with a warning about my headlight out. Thanks Barney. Now we can all sleep better at night.

Re: venting... tired of getting pulled by police
I agree with you. When I lived in CA and drove my 66 around the cops would ALWAYS pull me over. It did not help I was 17/18 years old but it everything worked. I got a ticket one morning about 5am, I saw a cop at a gas station on the corner and I was makin a right turn at the stop sign so I made sure to completly stop.
As soon and I made the turn out she came with the lights flashin. She came up to the door and said "nice rig but I can see you dont know how to drive it" than asked for my info. She said I was speeding and I argued with her and asked to see the radar gun and said theres no way i was doin 10 over the speed limit 50 feet after I made the turn. When she came back she said she would help me out and not write me up for speeding, just running through a stop sign which I did NOT do. After more arguing I signed the ticket, turned up the radio all the way and wound out every gear with those loud 2 chamber flowmasters. Didnt help my driving record but it made me feel better. |

Re: venting... tired of getting pulled by police
I got nabbed too. coming home from a night run wheeling with my dad driving. Got puled over by a cop ask if we been drinking... nope says we got a tail light out. Runs the plates and all and lets us go with out even a witten warning. We get to a rest stop and we check it the light is working fine.
Its profiling pure and simple... beat up old 4x4 late at night they assume ur some "good ole boys " out drinking. A big old lifted truck attacks attention especially if itt is pretty high or pretty beat up. I just keep it legal and say screw it. yeah it sucks but you know if they wanna give you a ticket there gonna give you a ticket. Also keep in mind if your running bigger meats it throws off your speedo reading

Re: venting... tired of getting pulled by police
Cops profile, for sure. It`s a form of descrimination. But,driving anything that stands out gets the cop`s attention as well as everyone else`s.They are more aggressive these days because they are the king`s men collecting taxes to make up for financial declines in this sucky economy. They are revenue grabbers more than protectors of justice these days.

Re: venting... tired of getting pulled by police
I got pulled over in Greg Neck MD. I was in my 72 Blazer. The police woman said i was not wearing my seat belt. I showed her my lap belt that was still connected, and she said i didn't have a shoulder belt. I said they didn't have them in 1972. She said ok and i went on my way.
(I know....they were a option)

Re: venting... tired of getting pulled by police
I have only been pulled once, it was because I missed my turn, turned around and there just so happened to be a checkpoint up ahead. I'm surprised I havent been pulled more. I work night sometimes and get home at 2:00am. My truck sounds like a big block with open headers. I squeal the tires a bunch and my power steering belt squeals. My torque converter kicks in at about 1600, so I have some room to rev it, which I do, even as I pass cops. Usually they pay me no attention, and when they do pay me some attention, they wave. Weird I know. And I drive with the hammer down constantly, but I dont speed, I just get to the speed limit quickly. Plus my trucks governor is 3650, when I hit 3600 it is about 115dB.

Re: venting... tired of getting pulled by police
Been there myself. Had a cop in front of me, one behind me at a red light. The cross traffic light went red, two cars ran the red, and I get lit up.
Cop comes up to the window, and asks if I know why they pulled me over. I answer honestly, "I have no idea, but I see you missed the two red light runners." He cites that I don't have mud flaps on my truck, and I reply, "This truck is stock, and it has never had mud flaps." He walks around my truck two times, while his partner runs my plates..... "I guess we'll let you off with a warning this time." I guess I should have kept my mouth shut, but instead I asked why it was more pressing that lack of mud flaps was deemed more important than cars running red lights......... I have to remember to keep my inner monologue to myself..... <sigh>

Re: venting... tired of getting pulled by police
honestly i wish the cop had just said that the truck looked suspicious or he thought we might have been drinking. Just be honest you know...... I can't make a statement about all cop and i do value the job they do keeping things safe but man they just have a totally different mindset. It takes a different kind of person then me to be a cop

Re: venting... tired of getting pulled by police
ive given up on "speeding" im usually the guy withthe lifted truck annoying daytime traffic..
it takes too much gas to get up to speed quickly... it's hard to slow down... it's annoying to dodge little cars thinking they'llget a free insurance claim.. im just sick of them alll.. so i mind my business, rumble around "quietely" (ie usually below half throttle) and throw batteries at passerbys.. maby not the batteries.. i used to get pulled over to "bull****" about my jeep (ol military deal) but lately i jsut get stared at and they measure my headlights when i walk away... i dotn iget it officer.. you are only 54inches tall.. and you can look DOWN to my headlights.. so why are you measuring them napolean

Re: venting... tired of getting pulled by police
hahahahaha - i poked some smot today........
anyways - where i live i have the interstate on the edge of my small town - so we constantly have state troopers cruising through town - then pulling me over for window tint violations - my ass! like that is really serving or protecting anything. i guess in a town of only 1200 people they have to find some way to squeeze money from us.

Re: venting... tired of getting pulled by police
I've been through both instances. Twice, pulled over by good officers, warned about my speed, gotten away with more than I should've (45 in a 30 and 66 in a 40... that was on my latest birthday. lol!)
Then there was that other time...Profiled in a small town between home and college. Limit went from 65 to 55 and I was runnin 67 with a red cavalier on my tail doing the same thing. Cop passes in opposite direction, turns around and heads in our direction. He gets closer, and passes right by the ricer cavi and gets on my bumper with lights going. Takes his time looking around the car, no small talk, just to the point with this guy. It's 5:00 in the afternoon on a thursday and he calls back up just for fun. Oh, and to sign the ticket, i am asked to step out of the car and precede to the back between the officers cars. At the time, i was 19 driving a BLACK 94 Z28 with after market 18'' wheels. The stop took about 45mins. I'm a firm believer that there are true blue GOOD officers out there, but they are over shadowed by guys/girls like this that give them all bad names. I have nothing but respect for any officer doing their job, mind you. Thats what got me out of my other encounters. Just my little story to go along with your venting. Come to think of it, I believe there's a song by Cory Smith that might fit this thread fairly well...lol |

Re: venting... tired of getting pulled by police
My old K25 was a cop magnet too. The rural officers leave me alone, as it really was a mildly lifted truck compared to most, but the city cops were absolutely ruthless. The truck had a 4" lift with 35" boggers, mudflaps and flares on all four wheels, and you can be sure all my lights worked at all times to keep from giving them an excuse to light me up.
9 / 10 I got pulled over claiming that my exhaust was too loud. The exhaust had a pretty good bellow to it when I got on it at wide open throttle (straight piped 6.2L turbo diesel), but it was still no louder than a big block gasser with a set of flowmasters on it, and was pretty quiet when I was being gentle in the city to avoid being pulled over. I never did get any tickets, but jeese, I couldn't go anywhere without plotting an extra 30 minutes to getting stopped by the city cops! Drove me nuts!

Re: venting... tired of getting pulled by police
i get pulled over all of the time, but it is usually because i stomp on it too close to a cop.....
i'm running a big block with straights so you might well imagine how loud my truck can be.....
