Re: why cant i unlock/lock my doors
If you have the key to the doors you have probably not learned the way these doors lock. You must use the key to lock the doors on this era truck. They were designed that way so that you could not lock your keys in them.Try locking the door from outside with the key.

Mine wouldn't work and I took it all apart cleaned it all real good and put a bunch of 3 and 1 oil on it and presto works perfect.

Re: why cant i unlock/lock my doors
Sounds like you may not have the door keys, just a key for the ignition or completely wrong keys. Often, if an ignition lock goes bad, the owner will replace just the ignition lock and end up with 2 keys, one for the ignition and one for the door. That's what I did on my truck.

Re: why cant i unlock/lock my doors
That's true about needing to lock the doors from the outside. On mine, I need to push the door in while turning the key. Both doors are the same way (probably mis-aligned). The key might be just wrong too.

Re: why cant i unlock/lock my doors
Spray 'em and work 'em. If you have the right key, they will probably eventually work. I had to spray 'em (PB Blaster) and keep working them until they loosened up, but I still have to push in on the driver's door to get it to lock just like legolas894. They should turn towards the front of the truck to lock.

Re: why cant i unlock/lock my doors
Will your key turn in the hole when your door is open? If it will, like legolas said. Try pushing in on the door while turning the key.

Re: why cant i unlock/lock my doors
If you can lock and unlock the doors easily from the interior door lock knob, then your key may be wrong. If it is hard to lock and unlock from the interior
door lock knob, then it needs to be lubed. I just used a little bearing grease I had laying around, made a big difference. Take the door panel off to get to it. |

Re: why cant i unlock/lock my doors
If you have the wrong key to the doors, you should be able to get the code off the lock cylinder and get any local locksmith to make you a key.
