Thumbs up ? motorcycle ?

so i've got a 68 c10 that i'm slowly nursing back to health , but i'm on the market for something with a little more cover. probably a suburban. I'm just curious if anyone out there has had sucess in transporting a motorcycle in the back of a suburban?my newest venture is racing motorcycles with my local motorcycle club. my c10 does a great job of getting me and my kit to the track , but i'm looking for something i could sleep in over night , and the front cab is a bit cramped for me. any ideas or thoughts are greatly appreciated . thanks '

Re: ? motorcycle ?

welcome to the Forum!

first, we should find out what type of bike your racing. for instance a flat tracker or road race bike should fit in a burb without an issue. a heavily modded moto-x bike will be tight since they are a bit on the tall side.

as far as crashing out in the burb at night, you should have room to spare.... depending on the amount of gear your stowing.

what you need is a panel burb. privacy and space.

Re: ? motorcycle ?

I used to haul my race bikes in a 59 chevy panel...then a Dodge van. These were Class C flat track bikes so they were low and easily fit. If you are talking motocross bikes...forget it...way too tall I think. Circle track bikes probably fine. Measure you bike height and repost your question. Pictures of your bikes in your truck would be very nice...we love pics!

Re: ? motorcycle ?

You could always get a tent that goes in the back of a truck bed.

Re: ? motorcycle ?

no to the trailer , bike hitch, and I've got a tent , just looking for a bit more privacy , like a suburban. might be nice to be able to have a portable tool kit that could stay in the truck. lock it up, go in the grocery store(where ever) and no worries !!!!

what is this ?

Hope this helps. The length inside is 7' 6". This is my 66 panel so I do not know if other years are shorter or longer.

Re: ? motorcycle ?

Cornerhungry- now I have two reasons to hate you; your truck is running, and you have a Ducati! Can't help on your fitment question, but I think that Duc would look rad in the back of a suburban on display through the windows as you cruise down the road.

Thumbs up Re: ? motorcycle ?

4'4" would be the shortest. the bike would fit in no problem . maybe concerned that pushing it up a ramp( granted my truck would be stealthy low ) and into the back, 4 and a half feet would be semi comfortable leaning over a bike
. Those barn doors RULE !!!! and yes it's a duc. I'm kinda partial to the front of the late 60's model and mid 50's.

Re: ? motorcycle ?

I used to transport my old CBR 1000 in the back of my 88 with high rise shell. Even with the high rise I still had to take off the windshield to load/unload. Since a Sub/Panel would be tha same as a cab high shell (6-8" lower than my high rise) I'm gonna say no way will it fit. I can also say that my current track bike is too tall to fit in my barn-door 72 sub even before my notch came through the floor.

Re: ? motorcycle ?

cornerhungry, i'm in the same boat as you. I currently haul my track bike around in my 64 c10. Unfortunately I've found that my bike will not fit into my 72 blazer with the top on. However the panel trucks probably have more vertical capacity.

do you run at all the local tracks? fontucky, buttonwillow, willow springs, pahrump, etc?

Re: ? motorcycle ?

I am fortunate to have a local practice track that is privately owned. It is smaller than most but very technical. That picture was taken in the corner refered to as the carosel. From over head it sort of resembles the greek letter Omega. There is a small straight with a downhill hairpin on one end and a chicane into a hairpin on the other. One other benefit is last year Lance Holst stopped by and is a frequent visitor often sharing his knowledge and helping guys with bike set-up. Best thing is the use of the track 3 times a week is available to the public for free ( just check your ego, attitude at the door) but the porta potty will run you $5 per year. I have videos on youtube just search for RunninloZX10

When Ilived in the Bay Are I used to ride Sears Point and Laguna but the closest to me now are Miller in SLC and Spokane with it's crazy 180MPH straightaway.

Re: ? motorcycle ?

RunninLo, that is some serious lean angle!

I started doing track days back in Feb, hoping to maybe start racing with wsmc next year.
