Re: 69 chevy with 500c.i. cadillac
you are my new (BEST FREIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)..let me start by telling you what im planning to do as far as the installation and tell me if im doing anything wrong...ive got a 76 model 500 cadd..i have tin-man motor mounts that im going to weld in place.(where ever that place may be)..and ive got an adapter plate that will bolt up a th400 chevy tranny. im planning on placeing the cab back on the frame and fitting the engine and tranny so that it doesnt hit the fire wall..my main question is do i use these high dollor mounts i have or is there a trick you know..for ex..use ford taurus mounts and flip them and mount to chevy 350 chairs...i just made that up ..how did you mount yours.? thanks a million.

Re: 69 chevy with 500c.i. cadillac
BLITZ...no problem. this truck has been my first real welding project. ive had to learn some things the hard way. they may not all be by the book but what i have learned is working for me and has turned out real nice. and im very picky..if you want ill tell you every single thing ive learned and what mistakes i made and had to redo or found a better way.

Re: 69 chevy with 500c.i. cadillac
Well I actually didnt do it, I bought it that way
But its a ton different than the way you are headed with yours It has been Z'd 4" in the front & the engine stands are custom made, the firewall is smoothed & has a wheel barrow for the engine recess Also the floor is cut out & the trans hump will be rather tall when covered Here is a link to the thread I started for that truck http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=327829 |

Re: 69 chevy with 500c.i. cadillac
not sure if this wheel is going to look good, its very hard to pick a wheel that looks good on your ride. my original choose was a set of foose rims but they wernt available. so i settled for helo,s 22,s with toyo st2 tires. after i mock up the engine im pulling it back out for complete machine work and rebuiling. the guys at street machine did the blueprint work and its supposed to have 480 hp with 598 ft lb tq..i went to potter automotive and they have a blower for it...

Re: 69 chevy with 500c.i. cadillac
(PLANS FOR MINE).oh man..it seems to change every day. the orange truck is from houston. he,s the pres of eratic. my best freind trammell is in the club.his truck is on the twisted inc dvd.,its a sweet ride too. but im going a little different. 22,s (if they look right), 2 1/2/- 4 drop. im not planning on bags right now but im catching alot of crap over that. going to be powered by the 500 c.i. cadd..i was going to go twin turbo but i think the blower will be plenty. plus its half the price. im going to do a custom fiberglass console with screens in it. i want good looks and most of all i want to beat the guy next to me. a blown 500 should do fine. lol..ive been looking at seats from a lexus. they look pretty sweet. im afraid if i bag it , that it will not perform right down the track if i decide to race it. but who knows. bags may be in the future, it will not be a trailer queen., i have nothing against them at all, but (i) want to drive the crap out of mine..thats what its all about to me. if its gets scratched then oh well, right?,as far as paint.ive got a few ideas. ill include a pic of one of them.,not set in stone yet..ive got a few more ideas but havent put them on paper.

Re: 69 chevy with 500c.i. cadillac
this is trammells truck and the main reason i dont want bags. dont get me wrong. i realy like bags but when i picked his truck up for him one day from the welding shop he had it at i had to take a writen test before driveing. i aint playin..had to be aired up a certain hight so the front wheels wouldnt hit fender. air lines kept leaking down.(fixed now) the list goes on and on. i dont want a headach,, i want fun and dependability. i want to drive all day..

Re: 69 chevy with 500c.i. cadillac
Bags are nice, but they can wait
I like how low you have that cad sitting in the frame Mine is also moved back a fair amount to help with handling, but I dont remember how much it was set back I know one problem with mine that is an easy fix, is that the oil filter hits the drag link I plan on getting a remote mount oil filter Is there any particular reason you aren't going to run the caddi th400 ??? |

Re: 69 chevy with 500c.i. cadillac
(BIGGER PIC) ill sure try. may have to tell me how. i load them and they just show up what ever size, all of yall,s pics look the right size.not sure what im doing wrong. (TH400) not really, (WHITE WITH RED DETAILS),,it changes in my head every week. i really like the drawing ive got that is mainly white and red with the black and brown flames down the mid. i havent worked on the truck in the last 6 months..but after seeing all of your projects it has motivated the ever living crap out of me..plus with a baby on the way and adding onto house with work very ti me consuming..you guys all know.ha. but for some reason all i can think about is the truck getting done now. thx. ive worked on it every night this week.

Re: 69 chevy with 500c.i. cadillac
ok..i think i have the 500 where it needs to go. but the smart thing to do would be to put the cab on to make sure. the bad part is that im pretty sure im going to have to do away with the heater,,now im starting to worry about the brake booster, this engine is way to big. do i give up comfort for power?..my first guess is (HECK YEA). right? now i know why everyone uses the 350..i could have been done by now.

Re: 69 chevy with 500c.i. cadillac
I dont see any reason you couldnt run a brake booster, & especially a small corvette booster
As for the heat, it will suck without it, but you can always install an aftermarket heater / A/C system Last edited by Spray-Bomb; 07-27-2009 at 11:12 AM. |
