Opinions? Ebay Patina/Rat Rod find

So I missed out on a good, local "DD" 68 on C/L. Guy had already done some nice stuff to it and well...I was just too slow. I log onto Ebay and I come across a "drivable" 68 that's cool but I'm not sure about the price vs. cool factor. That and I am questioning if the "fun" will wear off and I'll want something I can really drive and customize. What do you guys think? Should I bid? Here's a quick look and a link.

Re: Opinions? Ebay Patina/Rat Rod find

I think it has a car rear end (notice the stabilizer hole on the housing) with 4-3/4" wheels and a front disc conversion using a "kit" that uses camaro rotors that is also 4 3/4". Thats how he is running the 338 wheels,IHO.
Notice that it doesnt have a brake booster with the disc brakes.
But I like it!

$6k seems a bit much to me for this truck. I like it alot, but not for $6k. If it was rust free and had a recently rebuilt motor.....maybe.

I wanted to put, "Patina/Rat Rod/Farm Truck/Shop Truck or WHATEVER you want to call it" in the thread title but it was too long. Honestly I really did. Maybe we can consider it a Pat Rod? Just for ease of description.

Anyway...lol, I thought I'd ask the group to see if anyone had issues with it. I guess my hang up is mostly in the hardware used. I'm not that knowledgeable on the 67-72 to begin with but it looked like somewhat of an unorthodox method used on the suspension. That AND it's hard to go from looking at a nice DD (and losing out) to considering an Ebay sell that's fun but will ultimately need work. The current bid is almost what the guy was asking for on C/L and the BIN is over that. LOL Ahhh, everything's relative though.

Actually the one pictured above is a different one, but it does appear to be running the 338 Boss Wheels. (Which you will need to take into consideration as it takes quite a bit of modification to run these wheels on a 67-72 truck).

I can't pull the listing up here at work, but from the pic posted above, it appears to be a rather clean truck. It would probably fetch $6k here in the rust belt, but like I said, I can't see the other pics at the moment.

Re: Opinions? Ebay Patina/Rat Rod find

I personally think $6K is a lot for this truck.

Yes it has some cool things about it.

But needs another $6K worth of work.

I'd pass.

I was the high bidder on this truck until this morning
Anyway, do the math: wheels and tires, air ride (valves, bags, tank compressor and lines) Art lower a-amrs, rear watts link and notch.....this is a running and driving truck that I feel is worth the money at 6k and he is very honest in his description....just my .02

Re: Opinions? Ebay Patina/Rat Rod find

that is not a rat rod, that is a nice ride. good starting part for a project, with a little work already done in the right direction it seems. 6k is pretty high for my area. if it had a fresh motor and a fresh tranny in that shape maaaayyybeeeee it may bring 6. thats about a 3k truck in my area.. its a nice ride though. NOT a patina or rat rod by any means....

edit, didnt look at the add and notice the air ride... if its quality work it would go for 4500-5k here. good luck

Couldn't agree more... Not to flame anyone but I would like to see what you think is worth 6 grand if this truck is not... Maybe its location but I must be really guilty of over paying for my rides..

I agree. I think the question you should ask yourself is, how happy are you going to be with it AS IS? If you think you will tear it completely down to the frame and start all over again, DON'T BUY IT. You can find a cheaper truck for that purpose. If you are going to drive it as is and just do a few upgrades, it's well worth his asking price and it will be something you can have fun playing with, without breaking the bank. That was the main reason I bought my 68 S/C truck. It met 95% of my criteria for a daily driver...67/68, SWB, original paint, straight body, virtually rust free, plain interior, nice motor (the supercharger was just the icing on the cake, ). The only thing I plan on updating is the suspension. If this truck meets most of your requirements:

PUSH BUY IT NOW!!

Good luck.

R/

Sorry about that.... that's what you get from going off of memory.

n2billet is exactly right. price all the parts this truck has on it, and see where you stand. I guarantee you will still need a truck and won't come close to $6k.

Re: Opinions? Ebay Patina/Rat Rod find

Ok. After all the posts i read on this truck i thought i missed something. So i went back and looked again.

I still feel the same way.

Sweet air ride setup. But thats it.

307 w/3 speed manual on column. Needs rockers, cab corners, and i am sure cab supports.
If you cant do that work yourself your lookin at near $1000 for someone to do it.

Then you need fenders and probably a core support. And most probably the hood is rotted up front if the fenders are. And he says they are.

And the seat is too short for that truck. I tried one in my truck. Sucked.

So what your getting is a chassis that needs taken apart and cleaned up. And a shortbed that you can't use. Since part of the floor is missing.

Ok........too much work needs done for what he wants.

I have to agree with most of that, but that's just me. I am a cheapa$$, so don't take anything I say as the Gospel. If you can drop $6k and feel good about it then that's all that matters, but I would feel horrible owning that truck knowing I paid that much for it. Not taking anything away from the truck. It's cool!

I love it when poeple say trucks like that would bring $3k...lol.
I will buy all of them that you guys can find for $3k. Air ride will cost you a grand minimum, figure $1500 minimun for wheels and tires, tubular control arms, watts link,etc.etc...and its a running, driving truck. If I were selling it it wouldnt be any less than $6k, and i guarantee it would sell
