My Sons 64 Shortwide

My Son and I have been working feverishly to finish this truck. It should be ready for the Torch Red paint next week maybe late in the week. I will be spraying the High Build Primer today or tomorrow. It will take a couple of days to knock that down and then comes the sealer coat. I have added a couple of goodies to the truck, Power Front Disc Brakes, Power Steering and a huge Sway Bar up front and a new wiring harness. Has anyone put a Rear Sway Bar on one of these Trucks along with the rear disk brakes? If so do you think these Items added are worth the money to do the upgrades. I will add a couple of pictures of the truck as it sets.

jason65,

We have been working on it for about 2 weeks and I will post some pictures of it later today with more up to date pictures. My Son and I will be applying the High Build Primer Tomorrow and then its back to sanding. I hope to be applying the color late next week. The truck is really clean with little or no rust. I have been looking at the Painless wire harness and it looks kind of Painful to me and I am an electrician. It sure would be nice to have all the original firewall gromets for this trucks application. Is there somewhere to buy them? Thanks for the compliment on the truck.

I'm sure someone will chime in on where to get it, but I don't know. I repaired my orignal one with a doner from another cab. Then bought the parts that were bad on both harnesses. The trucks over 40 years old. It's not that bad to wire.

Re: My Sons 64 Shortwide

Just a few more pictures of the truck. I will send more tomorrow after I get the high build sprayed.

When I finish This one My next project is a 63 Shortwide. It doesn't have near the goodies this one does but I am going to put a 305 V8 in place of the 250 strait six and bolt it right to the Granny 4 Speed. Then I am going to paint that one a bright blue with black accents (Grill, Mirrors, Bumper, Wheels). It should look ok. Thanks for all the compliments on the truck. I will keep the pictures coming.

Originally I bought this truck in Arizona for myself and somehow my Son talked me out of it. The only major problems in this truck was the kick panel on the Drivers side. The little plastic hole cover fell out of the truck somewhere in its 46 years of exhistance and all the road grime and muck rusted the rocker on the drivers side. The other side is completely solid. I been thinking about changeing the rear gear from a 4.10/1 to a 3.42/1 so my Son wont wrap himself around a telephone pole. This truck is pretty quick (1968 327), TH400 combo. Looking forward to getting it back on the road turning heads again That is if my Son will ever get out of it long enough to let me drive it.

Re: My Sons 64 Shortwide

We Painted the High build Primer today. Man was it hot out there in my shop. It turned out really good. I know this might sound sick but I cant wait to start longboarding it. Cant waite to see it shiny and Red (NOT GREEN). I have nothing against green but my Son does. Its his truck and who am I to tell him what color to paint it. Anyway here are some pictures of it with the High Build Primer on it.

Re: My Sons 64 Shortwide

Well So much for getting the truck done quick. We spent a lot more time on the bodywork than I had anticipated but I think its going to turn out pretty nice. We painted the sealer coat yesterday and need to do the 500 Grit wet block sand to it before we apply the Base Coat Clear Coat. We are going to wet sand the interior Tomorrow and paint the interior with single stage and then tape it all off in prep for the exterior of the truck. Here are a few pictures of the truck as it sets now. I hope we remember how to put this thing back together!!!!

Thanks for the info on the gromets. I bought a set already but there is a couple of holes in the firewall that im not sure what goes through them. When I get done with the paint job and start wiring I will probably take some pictures and ask for help at that point. All my energy is in Paint and Surface prep.
Thanks again,

fiddy9apache,
I hope to have it all one color next week and that would be RED. I liked it when it was green but My Son decided he likes Red so Red it will be. Maybe when his Son gets it and it needs restoring again he will want it to be Green again. WHO KNOWS... I just hope he stays out of it long enough for me to take it for a shakedown cruise. I installed a huge anti sway bar up front along with power disc brakes and power steering. With the huge tires that are on it I think the power steering will come in handy. Thanks for the Compliment on the truck.
