steering column help

i recently replace the steering column on my 87, the bearings were shot top to bottom, it shifted from P.R.N.1.2.3. fine, i replaced the column and it wouldnt go into park, easy fix, adjusted the slider, and went into park, but i lost 1st, i was told the steering columns would all work, is it possible the columns from a 3 speed are different? thats what im thinking and leaning towards, the truck i got the column out of was an 88 burban, maybe they replaced the column with a 3 speed as well? any help?
