Need help: switchbox isn't working

Ok, it's kind of embarassing. I was driving last night and I couldn't get into 2nd or 1st. I got to a place where I could see and the wires from my AVS 7 switchbox got pinched in the shifter. I couldn't down shift because of the wires getting caught in the shifter. Now it won't work, I guess I shorted it out. I cut the cord open and found 3 wires cut, not into but pinched and stripped back. I guess they touched and shorted out. I guess I will need a new switchbox? Anyway I can test it tear it apart and check the switches? There's a show next Saturday so I need to fix it.

I told a brief story of what happened, and clearly asked my questions, and punctuated them as such. I don't know how else to put it.

I doubt your box is actually messed up. Usually if you burn a switch you'll smoke the wire insulation as well.

Just splice the cut wires back together. I would suggest soldering and heat shrink to repair it vice using crimp type connectors.

The wires inside didn't get cut into, but pinched enough to see metal. I think they may have touched and shorted, but the box doesn't seem burnt out. It doesn't smell burnt and it doesn't look burnt.

Just a heads up for you. Our switchboxes carry a lifetime warranty against any manufacturer defects and we can always fix a messed up box for less then it would cost for a new one. Glad you got it working though.

Re: Need help: switchbox isn't working

Thanks! I like this switchbox and I'm glad I got it. I got to thinking the yesterday, this box is too nice to not have a fuse, and I was right. The guy that did the work said he didn't think it had a fuse to the box, simple mistake. I pinched like 3 wires, they touched, fuse blew, simple fix. I wish I had a lock for the switches on the box though, only bad thing. My wife likes to forget it's there and throws bags and stuff on it, so I have to remember to grab the box before I turn the key on lol. I wanna add that I really like the AVS stuff. I want a digital pressure gauge now. Thanks for your help.

I was using an AVS box and had a kill switch under the dash that disabled it. It does the same thing as locking it out.

Yea, mines hooked up to the ignition so it's not always hot. That's not a bad idea, stays on with key, and off when you need it off.

We can add a lock to the 7 switch boxes if you need one. Has to be one of the plastic ones though, not billet...
