I just picked this up last weekend after seeing it on craigslist. Planning to possibly turn it into a shop truck or something for now and slowly continue to make it nicer. I think it will be a lot of fun. And thanks in advance for any and all advice.

So, its a 67 short box with a 454 and 5 speed. Obviously far from factory. I think it will be a great driving project though. Looks like most the work done is pretty good. Lots of little things that need attention, aside from the body work. I have a few questions...

Whats the easiest way to tell how the front/back was lowered...whether they bought lowered springs or cut them? Does it matter? The back has a pretty good sized block for lowering. I haven't measured it yet. Seems to me it should come down another inch. What do you all think? Is that possible without notching, because I am not going to do that.

Also, is there a place I can enter my vin and have it decoded? I am new to chevy stuff and am curious whether I can figure out some more stuff about this truck.

Also, are these trucks very desirable? As far as this year, short wheel base, non-stock drivetrain. I don't really care all that much because I really like it, just curious what the overall feel is for them. I have always wanted one...so maybe that says something!

I am sure I will have more questions as the days progress!

I'm at work looking at this on my phone but looks like an awsome truck. I love 67's the most but I might be bias. Haha. As far as desirable, you will see a lot of guys put the 67/68 front end on the 69-72 so that says something...right? Oh yea Welcome to the board!!

That's a great looking truck. Ones that have the hard stuff done and just need some tinkering done are nice ones to have. Our trucks are desirable, as far as trucks go. Especially swb's, and the '67/68 is probably the most popular front end.

It hard to tell if front springs have been cut when they're in the truck, and people don't (usually) cut the rears because they are pigtailed at both ends. Heated springs have small gaps between the coils and sometimes the coils are even touching each other. I don't see an issue with cut front springs, I've done it myself, but heated springs should be replaced.

Dropped blocks in the back are okay as long as they aren't over about an inch and a half tall, any taller and they get into the scrub line.

So, you might have some lowering issues to deal with, but all in all, you're ahead of the game with a good looking truck.

Welcome! From Lake County California. One thing you might check. Crawl under the front of your truck. If the spindle comes out of the bottom of the carrier, you got stock spindles. If it comes out midway between the top and bottom of the carrier, you got drop spindles. You said you want to go lower in the rear but you don't want to notch the frame. The accepted lowering limit without a notch is 5" from stock height. Good luck with your truck!
