Re: water pump question.

I am way outa my depth here....but do water pumps work on psi? or is it just volume of water moved by the rotating fins inside?
Sorry I can't be more help.

Re: water pump question.

I don't think they are rated on pounds per square inch (psi), which is a measurement of pressure. They are rated on volume, such as 30 gallons per hour (gph). In my experience, the Edelbrock pumps are great, but very expensive. I think you can get comparable performance from a lower priced high volume water pump, such as the Procomp or the ones sold by Summit and Jeg's. The most important factor in fluid flow is the pulley ratios, IMO. Make sure to NOT use underdrive pulleys, such as those sold by March. Use a factory set up where that water pump pulley is noticeably smaller than the crank pulley. This will keep the low rpm flow high, which is what you want to keep the engine cool on the street. Run a new high flow thermostat and a clean radiator with a fan shroud and you should be fine.
